    What is the "API" setting?

I was just wondering what this was, it has Default, On and Off as choices.

I noticed that some of you guys play with it off.

    Just wondering what it does.

    Thanks

    Adaptive Pitching Intelligence

My understanding is that it lets the CPU pitcher adapt to what you're used to hitting and make changes, make it more difficult. However, I could be confused. It's either that or it just involves the pitcher's confidence in his pitches (the little blue bars under each pitch).

Well...at least I know what it stands for! :P

With it on, the catcher will call the game for you while pitching (type of pitch and location). On default you can request a call when you want. The CPU will supposedly throw more fastballs with it ON as well when they are pitching.

Last night, after watching Jamie Moyer pitched an OK game, I fired up The SHow 07 in my PS2 and played a game with him pitching. With API on, the catcher keep issuing fastballs and cutter, to one batter after another. Doesn't the game know that he is a junk ball pitcher and his fastballs are mostly for effects? I shook him off and throw changeups in most instances, but that made me wonder about the adaptive pitching intelligence.

Yeah, the catcher seems to call for waaay too many fastballs no matter what.

Does API effect what the CPU pitcher throws the hum batter?

Yes it appears to. If you play with it off the pitch variety by the cpu seems to be better.

No, the API usually calls for the most effective pitch....it just so happens that the devlopers were lazy and made 95% of all pitchers in the game as 4 Seam fastball as the #1 pitch (X button)

Change the 1st pitch type according to scouting reports and you will see a big difference

That is true, and when you as a batter are seeing alot of fastballs from the opposing pitcher and hit them hard, the CPU starts throwing the other pitches more often.....I'm pretty sure.

When I'm pitching, I really try hard to establish my other pitches in the arsenal instead of just throwing heat - so I shake off the catcher ALOT.
