Question about Road to the Show?

Ok I'm a newbie and could be getting a PS3 in March/April just so I can get this game if they do the price cut to $299 which is rumored, but I have a question on how the Road to the Show works.

I'm thinking about being a 3B and for he Rays since I live here in Tampa, FL, but with Evan Longoria being there would I ever get called up or would it take like 10 years. Would I be better off picking a position where their isnt a star player in hope of getting called up the Majors faster or does that not matter.

thanks and I hope you guys can clarify.

If you want to be a 3B, just make sure you make your secondary position as a generic infielder and you will get put into the game at other spots in the infield. A couple years ago I was a 2B in the Braves organization, but I played 3 full years in Atlanta at either SS or 3B when Chipper had the day off because I couldn't get into the 2B spot even though I had better stats.

Yes I would have to say that the infield for me is best.

Re: Question about Road to the Show?

I've been LF and SS for the 'Sox andI have to say that the infield is more involved, but the outfield is cool too. Specially LF and CF(more action due to more right handed batters).

Also, IF you like Longoria and whoever will be manning CF for the Rays(Upton?) then I would suggest choosing a position that they are the weakest at ORGANIZATIONAL wise. I played 2B as a kid/teen but I knew the Sox were good at that position, so I chose one of the positions up and down the organization that they were kind of weak at(couldnt see being a catcher though). Plus w/ LF, I figured that Ramirez would retire by the time I made it to the bigs, and I wanted to continue the tradition of great Red Sox LF's..(Williams, Yaz, Rice, Manny etc...).

Hope this helps you in some way. enjoy the game btw. The Show 08 is my favorite sports game of all time so far, and it was the first yr ever(I'm 31) I never even really touched Franchise mode...I just had a ball doing RTTS.

I've always thought infield is the most fun. You get to be a part of double plays and base stealing.

I've got a follow-up question to RTTS then. Specifically, if I choose to be a catcher will I have the opportunity defensively to throw out runners trying to steal 2nd and 3rd? I know this wasn't in 2007 but it may have been in 2008.

                        Another quick question...

How does choosing your secondary position(s) work? Do you get to just pick one primary and one secondary, or do you have a certain level of proficiency that you can choose for each position (like 2K, where you have a slider for each position so if you want you can be a complete utility guy by maxing out each position).

If I wanted to be an OF/1B, could I pick ALL OF positions or would I have to choose one specifically? Just curious because in real life I play everywhere in the outfield as well as first base.

                        Thanks.

You just pick the positions when you are creating your character. Your positions can be generic like OF or specific like LF. You might have to be specific with your primary position (I can't remember), but you have the choice on the secondary one.

Nice, so I can make my primary 1B and my secondary OF. That'll work, I suppose. Thanks!

I was basically Mark DeRosa for the White Sox. 2B as my primary position, and the IF secondary position so I'd get thrown everywhere on the field. SS is the most fun to play as a fielder. Great variety of hits to field, double plays, desperation throws to first.

Never played as a catcher, but 1B and OF were pretty boring.

Though this year, you can edit which plays you'd like to actively do, so you can choose not to field every single toss to first base as a 1B if you prefer.
