For those that need to get a PS3

I'm one of the many that only own a 360 but have been drooling so much over what I'm seeing from The Show this year that I had to go out and get a PS3 simply for this game. If you are like me and aren't too confident that the PS3 will drop it's price in the next month or two, I found an offer that Sony has for the Playstation card. If you go to sonystyle.com (Sony's website) you can apply for a Playstation credit card and you will get a $100 credit off your first purchase of $299 or more. I purchased the PS3 80GB model for $422 (tax and shipping included) and it will end up only costing $322 (instead of $430 w/tax if I purchased locally). Plus standard shipping is 5 days so as long as you order by tomorrow you should have it in hand for the release of MLBTS 09. Thought I'd pass this along. Can't wait!

PS - this is nothing like those "Free PS3" scams or the cheap "$199 PS3's from Canada" scams.

if its sonystyle.com you might also be able to go to one of their stores and get the same deal. Sony Style is a Sony boutique store - there's one in the mall attached to my office building.

I finally broke down and got a PS3 yesterday. The Show was calling my name in my sleep like Field of Dreams. Best Buy has a great deal this week where if you buy a PS3 8GB or 160GB you get Guitar Hero III Legends of Rock or Aerosmith and a $50 gift card free. It is while supplies last (aka GHIII supplies, I got the last one in Fargo Monday morning and the promo went on Sunday)

I did the same thing last year when i bought a PS3 just for The Show. Applied for the card, then about 1-2 statements later I got my $100 credit..not bad at all

I am just wondering why you aren't confident in a price break in the near future? Rumor during holiday season was that a price break was coming in March. There was even a Sony executive saying that pricing would get 'more competitive in March or April' (i dont remember the specifics..dont quote me on this though). With the economy in the shape its in I think a price break is the only move to make here...and one I am certainly hoping for.

I guess my lack of confidence is that for every "rumor" of a price drop there are numerous other news outlets saying there won't be a price drop. I think the best article I read was somewhere on CNET where they went into detail about Sony losing X number of dollars on every console. Even with the PS3 being cheaper to manufacture in 2009, they lost so much last year and with the economy the way it is this year, why would they feel compelled to drop the price and start racking up the debt again? If they decide to drop the price, at most it would be $100 so this deal works out the same as a price drop. Plus, the rumors have a price drop in March or even April. MLBTS 09 comes out next week - I can't wait around that long for a price drop! I need my baseball fix now.
