Quick rundown of the batting controls?

Can someone please give me a quick rundown of the batting controls? I'm new to playing The Show ('09 demo to be exact) and I can't for the life of me figure out how to hit. Seems to be right stick controls fly ball/ground ball and timing is huge. Other then that I'm confused. Do I use the left stick at all? Can you push/pull the ball or is it swing early for pull, late for push?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is the only thing frustrating about this otherwise fantastic game so far.

You point the left stick where the ball is and press X to swing, like High Heat. Timing determines which direction the ball is hit; swing late on an inside pitch and you'll hit it weakly the other way or swing early on a outside pitch and you'll pull the ball weakly. You can use the right stick before the pitch to influence where you want the ball to go. If you press down and then right on the right stick before the pitch (if you have a dualshock controller, you will be notified by the controller vibrating), you are influencing the batter to hit a ground ball to the right side. However, this doesn't mean your batter will do that because you still have to time the pitch right, you probably get a slightly bigger margin of error though. Up is to influence a fly ball, down to influence a grounder, left to influence hitting the ball to the left side, and right to influencing hitting the ball to the right side. Using the right stick helps a lot when bunting.

If you go into the option, you can turn on API( or something like that). What that does is it show the batter plate coverage, like a batting cursor. Using that is the same as not using it but only you can actually see where you swing.

One more question, say I want to "load up" on a fastball up in the zone (obvious intent to crush one if I get the right pitch) do I press up on the right stick to increase the likely hood of lifting the ball out or is the right stick more for the sac fly situation?

If you play with guess pitch on and you guess the fastball and the correct location you will get a boost as well as the location. This allows you to sit on a fastball. You can also press up with the right stick but I wouldn't recommend it in this situation.
