I also had a question pertaining to this subject. Is there a huge difference between HDMI and HDMI 1.3? I would hate to get the HDMI knowing there is something better out there.

You know I was always one of those "it doesn't really matter to me" type of guys when it came to this. But you know after getting an HDMI cable and playing in hi def,I find it hard to try to play on a standard definition tv.

1.3 is only a standard and helps with handshake problems between devices, nothing more or less, everything half descent is 1.3 now.

Don't go out and buy the 'gold plated' or 'O2 free' just a way of getting you to spend more money.
Just get your bog standard cable, I bought mine for $10.

As other's have said, don't waste your money on a super-expensive HDMI cable. A $20 9' cable will do you just as well as a $150 Monster cable. There is fundamentally no difference between, say, the $20 Nyko cable and the $150 Monster cable... occassionally, for some less than $10 there can be suspect manufacturering, so the cable might wear worse over time, but generally, anything $10 and up will do the exact same thing.

I don't have my PS3 yet (ordered on Wednesday), but one of the things that I really like about HDMI that is often passed over is simply that it is one cable in one cable out... nothing else to worry about it, like the five plugs for Component, etc.

HDMI cables definitely make a difference, not just in game playing but in watching HD television as well as Blu-Ray movies. It's really eye-opening. I just can't watch baseball or basketball in standard definition anymore...the difference is huge!!! And it's not going to bust your wallet either. As several on this thread have posted, you can find decent HDMI cables for $10-20. Don't spend $120 on HDMI cables! They're not $100 better than the others! Go on Ebay or Amazon. I've also found good HDMI cables on Monoprice.com. I've got one for my cable box and one for my PS3. Once you go HDMI, you'll never want to go back! Enjoy a feast for your eyes!

Just to clear up one thing, you can still watch something in HD without HDMI cables... Component, VGA, and DVI all broadcast in HD as well. HDMI is currently the only standard cable that will display in 1080P, but 720p and 1080i are both considered HD and are broadcast by several other standard connections/wires.

Whether there's that much of a difference between HDMI and Component/VGA/DVI depends on the device and what you're watching. You will not see much of any difference using Component than you will using HDMI if you're watching TV... I Don't know of any service providers that broadcast 1080p, and then I don't know of any content producers that broadcast in 1080p, so it will come down to how the device displays the content... and most cable boxes, satelite boxes, DVRs, and so on, broadcast the same by HDMI and Component.
