Too many two out inning rallies by AI!! (Comeback AI Discussion)

Getting sick of the absurb amount of 2-out rallies by cpu! looks like an easy 1-2-3 inning, but no... base hit with 2 outs, and it dont stop. happening alot, not sure if i can fix it. any suggestions?

The only thing I can suggest is if its happening late in games go to global options and make sure the Comeback AI feature is turned off. I'm pretty sure It's turned off automatically though and you have to manually turn it on.

And also I guess just pitch better...this does exist IRL more so with subpar pitchers...

I have to admit im pretty awful so far.
But I'll agree that when I get 2 outs on the opposition, they seem to rock me. AAAHHHH!

Check your pitcher's "PCLTH" rating. It's a rating of how well they pitch in tight situations. If it's not good, then once they give up a hit they tend to give 'em up in bunches.

I thought about this as well. It seems that they always have there rally caps on when there's 2 outs.

I've seen some big innings by the cpu but I've also gotten out of them. This does seem to happen more this year but I think its because the cpu hits the ball better. You have to be more cautious on the mound and nibble around the strike zone more - even if you give up walks. You can't give in to the batters anymore which is a good thing.

I think the game is phenomenal. I just wish for next year that they add a confidence affectiveness slider. If that makes any sense what I mean is I hope there's a slider that slows down the process of gaining/losing confidence on the mound. I think it's a little too sensitive. This is why I feel like I either throw a great game or horrible game. Nothing really in between. If I walk a few guys or sometimes even one my pitcher loses it on the mound and mound visits don't always work. Hopefully they add a slider so we can adjust how quickly pitcher's get rattled.

I am going to try playing a couple games with the confidence meter off but I'm not so sure how that will play out because the main confidence is still there. You can only turn off the individual pitch confidence.

I think for the future they do need to tweak the confidence and/or add sliders for it. If I throw a fastball and hang it in the zone a little and the CPU hits a shot but it's caught I shouldn't gain confidence in that pitch just like I shouldn't lose confidence when I am nibbling on the corner and I just miss. I think confidence should be correlated with the user hitting the release point and making great pitches (K's, weak ground balls/pop ups, etc...)

I feel your pain, my first 3 games in my dynasty (LA-me @ SD), game 1 bottom of the 9th LA up by 1 Broxton on the hill, 2 outs, single, throwing error, single, double, passed ball - game over,

                    Game 2:
Bottom 7 - LA up 3, Homerun, Homerun, single, fielding error, Homerun, SD wins 8-3

                    Game 3:
Bottom 8 - LA up 1, double (off an inside 2seam fastball the opposite way?!?), triple b/c my auto fielding takes the wrong route to the ball for some reason, single - SD wins by 1

It's not the pitching, I checked my pitcher's confidence after each hit and not a drop in confidence, it's something in the game. Since then I haven't had a problem with it, but it has happened.

Yeah I didn't want to say it yet because I got a lot of heat for it last year but the opposite field thing is still there. I have given up HR's and hit a few that I and the CPU were clearly late on and could produce that much power. Even pitches down the middle really aren't going to go that deep in real life unless the batter stands far away from the plate. 2 guys come in mind that can hit oppo HR's on pitches down the middle are A-Rod and Manny and they don't do it all that often. Ok you can add Ortiz to that list and I"m sure there are a few more. But elite players only. I shouldn't be rewarded with a HR off the foul pole with Jason Bay on a pitch that I timed late just because it was right down the middle. BUT, I will say that this game is THE best sports game I have played to date. They REALLY fixed hitting 10 fold. I just think for next year just a little tweaking would be great. Last year and all previous years I just couldn't enjoy the game at all because of the hitting. This is 100% not the case this year. Hats off to SCEA.

Sorry that this was a little off topic I figured I'd respond to boblight's mentioning of the inside 2 seamer being hit for a double.

I would agree that its still slightly off but the retail version has been better than the demo. Only true power hitters go opposite field for HRs with any consistency but its so much better than last year. The vast majority of HRs I've hit have been pulled. I rarely give up any opposite field bombs that scratch my head and so far I'm really happy with it. The one guy that pushed a HR in my season has been Cabrera but he shows HR power to all fields. All 3 of Magglio's HRs have been pulled and that's his MO.

I don't edit players but is opposite field power a rating in the game or is it just power?

I think it's just power but I could be wrong. Yeah I am VERY pleased with what they did with the hitting engine. I couldn't even imagine playing this game and pulling HR's to be honest and the amount of realistic hits I get are 100x better then previous years. I just think for next year and future versions they could just tweak the hitting so there is a little less opposite field power on pitches middle and definetley middle in. It's definetley not a problem but I think it can just be tweaked a little bit.

The way I hit now is I have the PCI on and I move it in a zone where I can do some damage (middle-in 90% of the time) and I wait for a pitch in that zone and try to pull it (that's essentially what power hitters do) until I get 2 strikes on me. Well sometimes I am a little late on a fastball thats up and in and I will take it the other way for a deep fly out. I think those balls should probably be foul balls instead. Again not complaining at all. What they did with the hitting engine in 1 year is absolutley phenomenal. All they need to do now for the future games is just minor tweaking/polishing because they have the platform DOWN.

I haven't seen this yet but I'll keep an eye out for it. It might not be a bad idea to turn on the API or whatever it's called so you can see where your catcher is calling for the pitch. They will use a scouting report and call for pitches in the hitter's cold zones (or you can just press select to view the hot/cold zones). Try a mound visit too.

Another thing is that pitchers seem to unravel very fast in '09. When they hit empty they are useless, basically throwing BP out there. When you guys see these two out rallies is it early in the game when your pitcher has plenty of energy left?

I actually don't mind it though and like the way confidence is done this year.
