Need Feedback on Whether to Upgrade to PSP 3000 for the Show

    Hi Guys,

I'd like some advice as to whether it is worth it to buy a PSP 3000 specifically for running the Show. I currently have a PSP 1000 (fat original) and am enjoying the game, but with the following problems:

    1. The graphics are sometimes washed out and very hard to see most notably in day games and especially in the stadiums used in RTTS.

    2. The load times between RTTS appearances seem to be ages.

I've heard that the PSP 3000 has better contrast and deeper colors so I thought that might help problem #1. I also know that the UMD cache feature is supposed to speed load times, so I'm hoping that woud help #2.

Can anyone who has a PSP 3000 & the show comment on these things, please? I'd especially be VERY interested in hearing any insight from players who have experienced the show on BOTH a PSP 3000 and an original PSP 1000 to get your impressions.

    Thanks a bunch.

i don't have a 3000, but I have a 2000 and it has the UMD cache. I don't use it though because it seems to make The Show freeze sometimes.. during load screens.. but it still loads faster than a 1000 model because the 2000 model has 64 MB of RAM instead of 32 MB.

I just turned UMD cache back on and I'm trying it again.

I have the 3000 model, and my boy has the original you have. as you assumed, the game is easier on the eyes and speedier when playing on the 3000.

On a sidenote, here's what the always truthful WikiPedia sez in regards to the display upgrades on the PSP 3000:

PSP-3000 has an improved LCD screen with an increased color range, five times the contrast ratio, half the pixel response time to reduce ghosting and blurring effects, a new sub-pixel structure
Which sorta makes sense. I know that my boy complains about how difficult it is for him to play his PSP outdoors, but mine looks just fine. Definitely cleaner, better look on the 3000 model

Can someone please time the load times for me, whenever its convenient, if you're playing an RTTS batter career?

On the 1000, I'm trying to play an RTTS career and it seems to take roughly 90 seconds +/- to load a new game and then usually another ~20 seconds loading in between each and every plate appearance. Then it's another ~30-45 seconds post-game to get back to the main game menus.

A single game with 4-5 at bats can take up to 5 minutes to complete. (I was skipping fielding & running opportunities which would make it even that much longer.) It's really depressing when you're brought into a game for a single pinch hit at bat and you have to wait through all that.

If these times were cut in half or better, I could probably justify the 3000 purchase on that issue alone.

Thanks for all the info guys.

With the PSP 2000 model, it takes about 30 seconds to get into a RTTS game and about 20 seconds to get out of one. In between plate appearances, it's only a few seconds.

If portable gaming is the thing for you, go for it, but if you could save a little more, and afford it, get the PS3. Just my opinion.

DR Russell, yeah already have a 360 which I game on mostly and a PS3 that I principally have for the Show and F1 Championship Edition. But I travel a lot and the PSP helps feed my gaming addicitions during those times. ;-)

I have a white 2000 I play on now. I have seen it on the 3000 and my jaw dropped (at the color fidelity and lack of ghosting on the darker jerseys). So I will be picking up a 3000 pretty soon.

Yes the load times stink on this compared to the PS3 version, and wish they gave an option to install a cache to memory stick or even the game itself to one.

But I still love it for playing on the go or in bed before sleep.

Based on the positive feedback here I went ahead and picked up a 3000 from Walmart a little while ago. I wish I had done so 2-3 weeks ago. I inserted my memory card and played a couple quick RTTS games on the new PSP and it definitely is MUCH quicker and the graphics seem quite a bit sharper as well.

My wife's also happy as I told her she can have the old PSP to play Puzzle Quest on, so it's a win-win. ;-)

Thanks again everyone for your input.

That sounds cool. How much did you get it for ?

Walmart had it for $169. But it was for the "core" barebones package... the PSP, battery, and charger. No memory card or game/movie bundle.

I suggest that you save the PSP for road trips and / or an emergency....get a PS3. That being said....an acquaintance of mine has the 3000 and digs it....better graphics and faster as you mentioned. I personally have no experience with any type of PSP.
