RTTS: Minor Adjustments to Goal Points?

I love RTTS, and I pretty much accept the way things are in regards to the point system based on in-game goals. However, there are a few tweaks that I'd like to see in regards to offensive goals:

    1. Hit and Run #1 - I don't think I should fail if I foul a pitch off. In a lot of ways, I did my job - especially if it was a bad pitch because I protected the runner. Simply cancel the goal if nothing else.

    2. Hit and Run #2 - If I am on base and the hitter swings and misses and I get thrown out at second, don't penalize me for getting caught stealing (this doesn't always happen, but it does happen).

    3. Drive in the Run #1 - Don't fail me if the runner gets thrown out at home.

    4. Drive in the Run #2 - Don't fail me if a runner gets picked off.

    5. Drive in the Run #3 - If I single and the runner doesn't score, I get a positve result. However, if I reach base safely due to an error, I fail. The net result is the same, which is still positive.

    6. Drive in the Run #4 - If I advance the runner without driving him in, I think that should be a positive result in some situations. This is a big deal in baseball. If you come up with no outs and a runner on second and you move him over to third, is that not positive? I know there is a 'Move the Runner Over' goal, but I hardly ever see that. How about that being a secondary goal?

I'd also like to maybe see some points for winning awards like the Silver Slugger or MVP (I haven't won an award yet in '09, so if it's there than great). Maybe some points for getting 'Player of the Game'?

I realize that you can't make points too easy, but at the same time I'd like to be rewarded for certain things - even if it's a token 50.

I agree with those points and would like to add my own. The one I would like to see added is more on the defensive side. How about a goal for the infielder to turn the double play. I figure you get penalized for hitting into one you should get rewarded for turning it. Just my 2 cents.

No2 is sooooo important... I'm sick of having to steal or hit and run and if I fail I get -5 for failing the goal as well as -10 for caught stealing. ffs give us a fighting chance.'

Something else that really pisses me off is when I hit and get to 1st safely just when the 2B or SS throws an error and I don't get the hit...sooooooo frustrating.

hit and run #3 - when you get a hit and the runner on 1st gets thrown out trying to go to third. How in the world does the game justify giving you a failed goal on this?

That one is HUGE! You do everything successful and the runner gets greedy and is gunned down at 3rd, YOU FAIL!

My other big one (already mentioned) is forcing you to swing on a ball out of the strike zone for the hit and run. I used to play with guess pitch on so I could see where the pitch was going. Pitcher throws a pitch out (you can visibly see you have no chance) and here are your two options:
            1) Don't swing, guy gets caught stealing, you might see the bench and you will lose points.
            2) Swing at a pitch that you have no chance of hitting, guy gets caught stealing, you lose points and the count is now in the pitchers favor.

I would also love to see 5 points for a DP, maybe 20 points for 3 DPs.

Re: RTTS: Minor Adjustments to Goal Points?

Man, I power down so fast when I see that my goal is to execute a hit-and-run as a hitter. I can not tell you how much fail goes through my brain because I know, the ensuing pitch is going to be in the dirt and I'm going to still try and swing like a moron because my coach told me to and I'll get that stupid note in my inbox telling me I left my runner out to dry by not swinging.

Another solution: maybe the goal should encompass the ENTIRE AT BAT instead of just that first pitch. I say this because most teams that attempt a hit and run don't do it on the first pitch. As cliche as it sounds, most hit and runs are executed in "hitter's counts" and specifically on 2-1 counts. As you guys have mentioned, I should not be penalized because a pitch was 7 feet outside and I managed to foul it off and keep the baserunner from getting gunned down.
              Sports are good.

check swing on those pitches, it counts the same as if you swing, if he is safe you get your points if hes out you fail like normal but you aint down in the count.

I agree that fouling off a pitch should cancel the goal. At least you're protecting the runner. I think the game is too generous counting it as a success if you swing and miss, and the runner is safe at second. You're not doing your job at that point, so you shouldn't get points. But at least that one will make up for losing points for hitting a ball foul, or the runner getting thrown out at 3rd.

I think secondary goals would be a good thing. Such as advancing the runner to third (expecially when there is no one out) when your primary goal was to drive in the run. Getting docked 10 points when you actually did something positive is kind of tough.
