Rule 5 Draft steals
We have all had them post some here, I just recently got Justin Smoak and than signed Lars Anderson. Now I have 3 A potential first baseman on my Marlins because I have Logan Morrison in Triple A. I think that I am going to trade whoever has the highest value for a stud, but we'll see.

Re: Rule 5 Draft steals
Yeah Rule 5 draft seems a little overboard but I love that they have it in the game so I'm not going to complain.
It seems like there's an A prospect available every season.
I just did a fantasy draft franchise (simming) where I had Morrison in the Minors (behind Pujols). After the 3rd year, Pujols left via free agency so I bring up Morrison.
year 1 - 25 hr, 90 RBI runner up for ROTY behind Moustaffa or whatever his name is (3rd base A prospect that was also on my team).
year 2,3 and 4 - 40+HRs and 130+RBI each year.
All in all, 4 seasons, 3 world series titles and 2 MVPs. That guy is a beast!

Re: Rule 5 Draft steals
matt laporta has gone 1st in both my drafts. too bad i can't get him
i got chad cordero in my last one. he's not great, but he has 3 pitches with good control and movement so that's good enough for me in the pen w/o having to give up any players to get them.Blues and Avs fan!!! Arsenal soccer fan, and Rays baseball fan!!Comment

Re: Rule 5 Draft steals
Were these guys put on the 40 man before you started?
I went in to my set and "fudged" with the 40 man rosters so that I wouldn't get these guys at the Rule V.
With no way to edit service time(yet
)...it was the only real way for the semblance I wanted from the way the league "should" be.
I hope SCEA puts some real effort into fleshing out the franchise mode.
I love the start they gave it and can't wait to see what they come up with for future versions.
I will admit....I left Kyle Blanks off the S.D. 40 man in the hopes that they would expose him...but no good...he didn't become available.
Just as well...I would have felt like cheating.

Re: Rule 5 Draft steals
@Knight- I didn't mess with the 40 man roster which is probably why I was able to grab some of those guys. However, I didn't see any of the names that I usually see like Pedro Alvarez, Bumgarner, or Markoukias (Royals 3B) so the computer does exercise some intelligence. The only explaination I can offer for getting Smoak and Brown is because the computer saw the people who they were behind (Chris Davis and Jayson Weth) as long term pieces to their respective teams.Comment

In what year did you get Smoak, he isn't rule 5 eligible until 2011. (3 year rule.)We have all had them post some here, I just recently got Justin Smoak and than signed Lars Anderson. Re: Rule 5 Draft steals
I got him my first year, the game doesn't have the 3 year rule. Hopefully, the SCEA guys have addressed it as well as allowing wavier trades in the Show 2010, and actually having teams make wavier claims, I tried testing out if teams actually make claims I sent Josh Beckett back and forth until my fingers blistered and no claims were made on him.Comment

The base is there for a good system, but in the cases like above...it's got a ways to go.
To me...it looks like right now the waiver system was put in place mostly for the user. The CPU doesn't seem to use it properly.
It does use the Rule V which is good and shows me that SCEA can have the CPU look for smart moves that it could use.
I'm sure the dev team is working on ways to improve it and I'm anxious to see what they have in store.

Re: Rule 5 Draft steals
Since you can't edit service time and whatnot a lot of times, as you guys probably know, you get guys in the draft who shouldn't yet be eligible. For instance Tony Sanchez from the Pirates was available, and while usually for the sake of reaism I try to avoid drafting guys who wouldn't yet be eligible for Rule 5 in real life, but in this case I had to jump on him. (Bwt, Tony Sanchez's secondary positions are listed as 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, and RF...I'm not sure he plays anywhere but catcher though. I did some research on his Boston College career and couldn't find anything to indicate that he had significant experience anywhere outside of catcher. Part of the reason I picked him up is because of his versatility in the game, but it feels wrong when I have him in LF or something because I'm not sure if he should be there. Knight, did you assign him all these secondary positions because he actually can play them, or was it random or something?)Comment

No.....it must have been hidden in the player I used to create him from SCEA. I can't assign that many positions with the editor as it is now.Since you can't edit service time and whatnot a lot of times, as you guys probably know, you get guys in the draft who shouldn't yet be eligible. Good catch.
Thanks.
