The real show

RTTS got me thinking, Has anyone on the forum ever gotten close in real life to playing in the Major Leagues? If so, what was it like?

Don't like to brag, but I was MVP of my 12-year-old little league team.

Re: The real show

a hitting coach i worked with made it to AA, but had to quit because of an injury.

i worked at a university here in toronto as a hitting coach, as well as with many AA teams.

he has connections with a lot of major league umpires, former and current players and coaches...

its pretty interesting to hear some of his stories :P

anyways, back on topic, the closest I have made so far is high school baseball

No. But I almost made it as an extra in the movie "Major League". Close enough?

Re: The real show

When I was in High School I got a hit off a future major league pitcher! I went to Crystal Lake Central and got to face Scott Olsen who went to Crystal Lake South a few times. He was actually born only 6 days after me (Jan 6, 1984 vs Jan 12, 1984). That's as close as I ever got and as close as I ever will get!

Re: The real show

Never once had the ability to even begin dreaming of playing in The Show, but having bounced around as a sportswriter, I've covered major league baseball when schedule and circumstance permits.

Then again, some would argue that the level the Pirates play at would not be "major league."

Re: The real show

Do 3 at-bats on my high school JV team count? At least I'll forever have a .333 average...
