How the hell do you hit!?!?!
Lord have mercy, I am having the worse ****ing time. I just played 2 full games, and I've been struck out 24 times in both games combined, I have 8 total hits, and still have yet to score a single ****ING run. What the hell? Why is batting so freaking hard in this game? I even tried rookie and all I did was ground out. I am so freaking pissed right now I can't even see straight. Someone please help.Virginia Tech Hokies NCAA 2011 Dynasty Thread :

Re: How the hell do you hit!?!?!
Yeah, hitting is hard.
I strongly recommend the tutorial thread stickied at the top of the forum.
Also, my guide (which is in the tutorial thread) is in my sig.
Hope that stuff helps! -
Re: How the hell do you hit!?!?!
Yeah, you can't hit at everything in sight. You just gotta let some strikes pass by sometimes. Josh Beckett once threw a 3 pitch inning against me when I first started playing The Show.Comment

Re: How the hell do you hit!?!?!
I take the first two pitches for nearly every batter. You'd be surprised at how many first and second pitches are not in the strike zone. This wears the opposing pitcher down and also sets you up possibly for a fat strike or even.....a walk. Patience is a heck of a thing. Makes the game take longer though. If you are in a hurry or want to play a 20 minute game then you probably won't hit very well and will strike out 70-80 percent of the time.Comment

Re: How the hell do you hit!?!?!
Josh Beckett owns my soul in The Show.. since 08

I think I lit him up ONE time in the 20+ times I faced him.
but back on topic... ehh its hard. I'm hitting the ball fine but it's mainly fly ball outs at the warning track. lol. I guess I need to power swing more often. not sureComment

Re: How the hell do you hit!?!?!
Alright!! I turned on PCI and now I am doing a hell of alot better on my next game against the braves. I just started out the 3rd inning by getting 4 singles in a row and knocking in CC Sebathia, and then A-Rod got hit by a pitch, a 2nd run scored, then knocked in another run with Jose Posada, 3-0. This PCI makes a huge difference cause I can sort of gauge where the pitch is going by moving it with the ball. Makes it alot easier for me. Thanks for the tutorial guys, keep the tips and tricks coming, I need all the help I can get.Virginia Tech Hokies NCAA 2011 Dynasty Thread :

Re: How the hell do you hit!?!?!
at this point, I dont need PCI on, but I still cant hit. PCI is always on in the background, so I know where to move the stick.....it just doesnt seem to help.Comment

Re: How the hell do you hit!?!?!
You have to practice on learning where the strike zone is. If you swing at pitches out of the zone on a consistent basis, you will be totally screwed, as you will always be behind in the count, and you will never get a good pitch to hit.
Sit on good pitches, only swing at balls that you can put in play, even if that means taking a strike, or even two.
After a while you will eventually get a good feel for the strikezone, and you will find yourself ahead in the count, and that is when you can sit fastball, and middle in, and look for a pitch to drive.
Just like in real life.I will see you at THE SHOW!!Comment

Playing on Rookie is like the worst thing you can do. You get too used to it, and then when you step up to Vet the difference is jarring. Rookie will just set you back.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Patience. Patience. Patience. I know it's incredibly hard, but you have to work the count. That is the key.
Hitting is very difficult, and you can't just play this game half heartedly, you have to really be concentrating all the time.Comment

Re: How the hell do you hit!?!?!
The problem I have with this game is that it's just flat out too hard. This would be fine if I was playing on a high difficulty. But....
I have every slider(which I'm wondering if they even work) maxed out for me, and playing on Rookie. I should be crushing balls out of the park, getting singles, doubles, etc. Instead, I just played a BORING 13-inning game because noone could score, I grounded into at least 10-12 double plays even when trying to crush a meatball.
Never has a bottom level of a game(I've played) been this difficult.Comment

Re: How the hell do you hit!?!?!
I'm reposting this from something I wrote in another thread...
I've tried hitting every which way (using the L-stick, not using the L-stick) and here's how I found the most success at the plate...
Turn PCI on AND use the L-stick. Don't jerk the L-stick towards the pitch like most people do. Set the PCI where you want to and only swing at pitches that are entering your PCI. If it's outside of the PCI, let it go. If there's two strikes, leave the PCI in the middle (default position) and move it accordingly to protect the plate. This is the ONLY time that you should move the PCI when the baseball is coming towards you.
A MORE DETAILED RESPONSE:
To break it down...it's all about picking up the ball out of the pitcher's hand. There are 2 steps....
1) keep your eyes on the exact spot that he release the ball and pick it up the split second he releases it
2) the moment he releases it, quickly change your mindset to "is this ball going to enter my PCI?" If it doesn't then don't swing, even if it's a strike. After a few games, I found myself laying off of junk pitches that I used to swing at right out of his hand.
I still strikeout and swing at bad pitches but so do real life players. The difference is that I'm MUCH MORE confident at the plate and make the pitcher do his best to beat me, rather than beating myself. The Pitching AI is so good in this game (especially on Legend) that it's wise to take this approach if you want to have a chance in hell at winning games.

Re: How the hell do you hit!?!?!
wow, excellent advice man! I haven't updated since I made this post, but I've played 10 games now and still have not won a single game. The difference is, that I am finally starting to get some nice hits, and I FINALLY hit my 2 first home runs last night, 1 with texiera over the green monster that went OUT of the stadium, and another back to back from A-rod over the monster down the foul line. I was so pumped. I switched to turning PCI on a few games ago and its made things a lot more easier. I also changed the batting camera to wide. On the game last night against the Sox, everything was fine in start of the 1st inning. But then, bottom of the 1st, I give up 2 home runs, 6 runs, and 7 hits. How sickening! I end up losing the game 14-4, I gave up 21 base hits, 7 home runs, and they struck me out 11 times. This was RIDICULOUS! I've been getting anywhere from 8-12 strike outs a game, and I went through 3 pitchers and only threw 2 total strike outs. My team self destructed, it looked like a home run derby. And the only thing I had changed was user and CPU contact slider, I decreased it 2 notches each and then all the sudden every batter was like Babe Ruth. WTF happened here!?
Oh well, I am having fun and I am getting more and more patient and getting better at hitting, but last night's loss was just a freakin fluke. That was absurd!Virginia Tech Hokies NCAA 2011 Dynasty Thread :
