    Player Potential Thread

Per the request of Russell, who wanted me to create a new thread with this post.

Just as an aid, after the player name was my original suggestion in this format (current potential/suggested) and the one following it is the player's current potential in the new online roster update, along with if it increased, decreased, or stayed the same.

    <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr></tr><tr> <td style="background-image: url(/vBulletin/images/quotes/00.gif); width: 100%; height: 1px;" width="100%">

    1) Go on Sportsconnect

    3) Go offline
    4) Load up the Live Roster

You should have the new rosters with the potential fixes.

*NOTE: My initial proposed potentials were based on the roster out of the box.
**DISCLAIMER - Based on last year, potentials may change on download of the live roster (I remember I would do this since potential would change each time in previous games)**

*Note: It appears that there are still a lot of A-potential minor league pitching prospects (generic players, not including real-prospects like Brian Matusz, Buster Posey, etc.).
    Count:
    A pitchers: 121
    A position players: 21

However, the new roster has addressed the obvious potential problems.

*I want to note that my list does not encompass all player potential changes, just some I suggested previously which I used as a reference for when looking through the new online roster update.

Another researched issue from the OS Minors thread...

There is going to be sooo many guys that should be better and what are the chances that a D guy will go up? Has anyone done some extensive siming to see what the percentage is on this?

The ratings you give the guys will be key in the roster set and will be the major player here and I have no doubt that it can be done with great results.

I think SCEA might of forgot to up Jose Lopez's potential rating. He's still a D.

Just simmed a season and he hit .291 22 HR 90 RBI and still dropped 8 points overall. He is only 27 and don't see how he would drop 8 points after that season.

In his 2nd season he fell off miserably, .262 5 HR 63 RBI and lost another 8 points overall.

I think they may have missed Alfredo Aceves as well he is still a D potential.

They may have, but it wouldn't be completely absurd if they simply left him a D. He probably deserves a C imo.

I was just thinking, why is it a big issue for older player (mid 30s) to have high potential? Does that effect their ratings before the next season start? If my memory serves me right, didn't the rating of the player decrease with age - regardless of potential?

                Re: Player Potential Thread

Glad to see this issue taken care of so quickly. One thing that bugs me is Billy Butler only having B potential and Alex Gordon having A. Butler is younger and had a much better season last year. Butler was A potential last year. I guess hitting 300 with 20 something bombs and 90 something RBI's and finishing second in the league in doubles really hurt his potential this year. I don't get it.

                  Agree to disagree.

For a guy entering his prime who ranked (4th) doubles (6th) HR's (3rd) RBI's in the majors at his position to all of sudden become worse and in 2 years become so bad he's on the inactive list in season mode. But to each his own.

                    Re: Player Potential Thread

With the current engine, a very very simple rule that should be applied is :

For all players, Current Overall <= Potential.

I'm not sure who is in charge of the roster editing in SCEA, but that person should really do better.

Just simmed a season and he hit .291 22 HR 90 RBI and still dropped 8 points overall. He is only 27 and don't see how he would drop 8 points after that season.

In his 2nd season he fell off miserably, .262 5 HR 63 RBI and lost another 8 points overall.
Same thing happened with me, I didn't see the players potential change based off performance.

For a guy entering his prime who ranked (4th) doubles (6th) HR's (3rd) RBI's in the majors at his position to all of sudden become worse and in 2 years become so bad he's on the inactive list in season mode. But to each his own.
Certainly the Inactive List seems too far a fall right away, but I think you're cherry-picking the stats there a bit. We're talking about a guy who in his career year was a 2.5 WAR player, strikes out three times as often as he walks, and is unanimously projected to regress immediately (to 2.0 WAR in 2010). I'm not trying to talk him down; I like him. I just don't think his game rating is all that surprising - it seems to fit the data. He'll regress to an average.

Definitely agree to disagree on the quality of the player, since I think we're not supposed to get into this stuff on here, but in the interest of not seeming like I was just flexing bias, I at least wanted to make a case for why SCEA might say it was not a mistake.

                          Go M's.

Josh Reddick should be a B and Jed Lowrie should be a C or B
