lol @ Solo games last too long, due to supernaturally skilled computer batters.

I dont have problems holding the AI to low run totals on higher difficulties

What he said has nothing to do with runs being scored...it has to do with that fact that at bats that start with an 0-2 count should almost never go more than 5 or 6 pitches. Yet, in this game every 0-2 count suddenly turns in a 10 pitch duel with the computer fouling off 5 straight pitches.

I thought it was a pretty accurate review really.

Maybe it's just me but I'm not experiencing foul ball extravaganzas with the CPU batters.

..and just like he said, I can't tell you how many times I've gone up 0-2 on a hitter, then threw him 3 pitches where it actually nicked the zone (but the ump called them balls, another ridiculous bunch of crap are the umps but that's another post) and the batter didn't even budge or try to swing at them. Even Pujols doesn't have THAT good of an eye.

I personally believe that the 2010 version of the Show is the first failure. This year has been a total disaster of a game, and what's worse the developers just released a broken game and flat out bolted.
I have never experienced these "ridiculous" cpu battles. What difficulty do you play on? Maybe you should raise it or lower it but I play on All-Star and had CC go for a complete game shutout on 117 pitches. That's not far from realistic. Secondly, if you're up 0-2, you shouldn't be throwing pitches close to the zone. You should try a curve in the dirt or a fastball inside or at their eyes, you'd be surprised how often it works. And this year is far from a disaster of a game, there is nothing broken about it from what I have played. I wouldn't hesitate to say that this is miles ahead of 09, if not simply for the new presentation, great lighting, and excellent graphics overall. I played 09 up until March 2, so when everyone was saying that this game would not be anything new, I was already behind because I wasn't judging it on its own merit and thought it wouldn't be as good. This game is not only as good as 09, but better, and the only problems it has that truly NEED to be fixed for me, are things that even if they aren't fixed, I will be able to do enjoy it just the same, if not more than 09.

Boards are awesome , somebody has 6 posts and all 6 posts say the same thing, we get it man your not happy. As far as "bolted" for the 200th time, on vacation...or should they have asked first ? They take time off after the game is released every year. You have the right to your opinion, even if your saying it over and over, but check your facts before you make a statement saying "they bolted", that makes you look bad bro, just saying. Gamespots review was interesting but then again , scoring sports games is always a tricky. Whats good to one person is so different to another when it comes to those games. Plus with patches and updates, reviews are never on the finished product. Interesting read though

                Nor am I...

Sometimes I wonder if the reviewers/players are throwing enough balls versus strikes in the repertoire....

Also, I have come to the conclusion that the Adaptive Pitching toggled to the "on" position means that you had better have a different approach the third time through the line up, or you will be having a large helping of crooked numbers thrown up at you by the time the opposing team gets a good look at you...

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

"I don't get it. I have a two-hitter going, have struck out 5 guys, and I am ahead 2-0 in the 6th inning, and my starter has plenty of health left and he gives up 6 runs before I pull him out of there. Stupid come-back cheat, this game sucks"...

I cannot stress enough that you NEED TO MIX IN SOME BALLS OUT OF THE STRIKE ZONE, or :

#1 On topic, the Cpu hitter will waste some sweet pitches and foul a lot of pitches off, because you are too close to the strike zone for all 10 pitches.

#2 You will get beaten like you stole something when the cpu sits on your 5th consecutive low and away fastball to start out the hitter....

Mix it up and watch the K's go up, and the W's start to become more prevalent. Or, turn off Adaptive Pitching and throw whatever you want up there...

I honestly wonder sometimes if I'm playing the same game as some people. The "superhuman" AI thing is so overblown.

the 0-2 count thing is true.

what I usually do is throw a waste pitch then K them up on the 4th or 5th pitch.

sometimes if you keep tryin to throw strikes after you got an 0-2 count on the CPU hitter.. the CPU hitter will just foul ball you to death until u finally throw a ball. lol

I'm not asking for every batter to chase pitches, I just think they need to make them less robotic and every now and then take a swing at a bad pitch.

Right now it's so rare when it happens my eyes get big when it occasionaly happens because of how cool it is.
I don't know.... I guess I am just not seeing it as over the top. My K's actually come more from the CPU looking than swinging. But I suppose I have led myself to believe it is my use of good pitching sense to set the hitters up.

Going away with a fastball, again further outside with the slider, back inside with offspeed stuff, set up fastball up and in and if I am ahead in the count at that point, 2-seamer running back on the black for the backwards K.

I am not sure why I am not seeing the issues that some of the folks are complaining about, but maybe it is because I am doing my best to pitch, not throw balls towards the hitters.

Hey, if you kept 09' you know you still have a great fall back if you hate this game or you grow tired of it.

I am still loving it, and I see it rewarding my smart decisions, so I'll stick with it.

I am not seeing the CPU "battles" nearly as often as is being reported. I think it is quite avoidable, if you know what you're doing. I have a feeling this complaint will fade away as people become better at finishing batters.

One of the tips people seem to always miss is, set up your pitches! If a slider low and away doesn't K him, then try busting in on him with an in-breaking fastball.

                            Well, except you know, franchise.

On the point about 0-2 counts I agree with everyone here. I think game play wise it's done really well, players are in defensive mode and are trying to protect the plate. Most of the time they are gonna swing at something that looks like a strike and more than likely will foul it off unless it's a hit. I assume most people are trying to pick a corner to get the strike out. Yeah that's likely something that's gonna be fouled off.

Try to get the batter to miss with a pitch out of the zone. Especially if you get them to foul a couple off, they are likely going to swing at anything.
