Can't update to 1.08 and I don't get why not.

So I just installed the new 3.21 PS3 Firmware update and over the weekend I finally picked up MLB 2010 The Show only to find that I can't seem to update it. This wouldn't be an issue in most games, but with this one its so broken I can't really play it without the update.

I can download it fine, its the installing that doesn't work. I actually migrated all my data and wiped the HDD clean and I'm still getting the same issue ( @ 14% during the install it fails). I also purchased GoW III and it installed and updated fine.

I'm thinking that I could be having an issue with this because I don't have version 1.06, so I'm patching the wrong version. Unfortunately I can't find a place to download that patch so I don't know what to do. Is it the firmware or is it just a crappy patch from Sony.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Each of the previous patches are included in the most recent one so that isn't the issue.


I had the exact problem as you and had to delete all previous game data files (hadn't done so ever and had game files from 07) and it downloaded fine after that.

Yah I just tried it again and it corrupted the installed game data.

I really don't know what to do and its driving me nuts.

Would that really only leave the firmware update to be the only culprit then?

Also just to let everyone know, I'm getting ERROR 80029564 regardless if I try to update before I install the game or after I've installed it.

This sucks.

From what I understand, the firmware update pretty much just removed the option of installing (other operating system) from the fat/old PS3 systems to prohibit most users from hacking the PS3.

Well then I don't get it. The disc works because I can play the game. My system isn't hacked. Everything else works expect this damn update.

Also I can't play the game because it asks me every 10 seconds to update!

I can't find a website or a number even for this game other then some media page on SCE's site

So I found an article about the game Flower in which the person was having an issue with the game locking up at 14% and they used a proxy server to download and install the patch. Gonna try it now.

Also there is no record of the patch being downloaded in my Account Management so I'm thinking its something with the patch I'm getting from Sony.

I'll post my success (I hope) or failure in getting this thing to work.

Any other suggestions are always welcomed!

Delete the game install data and hard wire your ps3 into your router or modem if its wireless. Also make sure your ps3 isnt behind some sort of firewall.

Nope. Locks up at 14% with the same error.

Any other ideas out there? I have turned off the network and just been playing it as it came, but this game has sooooo many issues.
