Two additions I would like to see in MLB 11 (pitcher related)

Now, I'm a RTTS only guy and I mainly play as a pitcher. While I love the addition of the 3 different pickoff moves that we can do, I feel the cat-and-mouse game between pitchers and batters/base runners is incomplete.

I would like to be able to manually shake off my catcher while I'm on the rubber. Maybe they can tie it to R2, tap R2 once to call for the signs again and hold R2 down to shake off your catcher for a different pitch all together. And if you want to play games with someone, if you hold R2 and the corresponding button for the current pitch called your pitcher will shake his head but nothing has changed, except the batter's perception of what he's about to see coming out of your hand.

And the second thing is batters calling time out when you delay your delivery. I'm not talking about that cutscene that plays if you put your controller down for a few mins and it shows everyone standing around. But if I sit there and take 30 seconds between my set and delivery, I want to see batters calling time and stepping out to reset the clock in their head. Maybe if I give up a single and I want to hold the runner on first I could delay my delivery, force a timeout from the batter/umpire, then once I set again I can throw a few quick pickoff moves just to mess up the timing over at first.

    Just a few suggestions.

Totally agree. I believe they talked about the option for batters to call a time but couldnt get it in this yeas so i have my hopes up for 11. Also like the shaking off ability with the R2 button. Id like to add another option though; make sliding back to a base on a pick off (as a runner 100% manual and not letting the player ratings take over. Now its a random win or lose situation. This would add even more to the cat & mouse game. Especially playing against a friend!

I like both ideas, though calling a time out would be horribly, HORRIBLY abused online, haha. All in all though, good ideas, adds some realism. Unfortunately I think there's some more pressing matters with the gameplay that they need to address before they can add little things like that.

I love the idea of calling time because that does add another aspect of realism to the game. Even though it might be abused online I still think it should be put into the game.

I wanna bump this so hopefully someone from SCEA will run across this and consider adding it (if they haven't already)

This would be a great idea, but of course when online you should be limited as to how many times an inning/game you can do it, because people like to abuse things

I like the batter calling time idea.

The shaking head one seems pointless, why would the pitcher shaking his head change what your friend thinks will be coming his way?

I am sure there would be a limit. I believe there is a limit on the deceptive throws for online if I am not mistaken.

It's just something that I want to be able to do as a pitcher (like I said, I mainly play RTTS as a pitcher), plus it's already in the game for the CPU.

It'd be a nice aesthetic added to the game. If my catcher gives me one sign and I don't want to go with that pitch I should be able to look him off (would be kind of weird in a video game) or shake him off, to get to the next sign. And if the batter is sitting dead red on fastball, and I have every intention of throwing a fastball, I should be able to play mind games with him if it's a big pitch in a critical situation. Obviously there's no guarantees, but if I can shake off my catcher twice to seemingly get to a third pitch/location combo, when the entire time the call was fastball up and in...can those two shake-offs make the batter second guess what pitch I'm throwing as I start my delivery? It would be a nicer touch than the "one sign and delivery" mechanic we have now.

I'm just thinking of the possibilities here.

Also, what if you have a stubborn veteran catcher and you're a rookie pitcher (RTTS or Franchise) and you keep calling for a different pitch and he keeps putting down the same sign calling for the pitch that he wants. And if this standoff goes on long enough, he calls time and runs to the mound and the cutscene plays.

Now once gameplay is back in your hands one of two things can happen: if your confidence meter is high enough then you can convince him to put down different signs for your other pitches, or if your confidence meter is low then you no longer have the ability to shake him off for that current pitch and you're forced to throw what he wants, you might not like it, but it is what it is.

Batter calling time needs to be put in.

Also the ability to play with the runner on 2nd by having your shortstop or second baseman running towards the bag and away.

I like the thought of shaking a catcher off. That would be a cool addition. I love the 3 different pickoff moves. It's a great tool for strategy against the running game. I think it would be awesome if SCEA took it a step further and added a "slide-step" option. Maybe by holding R1 and hitting X to pitch, or something like that. That would be awesome.
