    Using the Splitter

Does anyone have some advice on effectively using the splitter? Several of my pitchers throw it, but other than inducing the occasional ground ball, I have not been able to do much with it.

It seems I either leave it up and it gets crushed, or it's low and taken for a ball. I am unable to get many swinging strikes with it, which I thought would be a strength of this pitch.

That's what it's intended for a contact pitch for groundouts but it all depends on location, too. You'll have to load the pithcher meter correctly without that much on it and release it somewhat early to be effective. Im doing fairly well with it but it's true leave it up it's bound to get scortched. Same thing goes for any breaking ball.

I would think low in the zone would be a good spot. It could be used in a fastball count to throw the hitter off a bit. It could also be a great pitch against another human. They would see fastball, but it would have some change in speed and serious drop. The splitter can be nasty.

I useually locate it down and in on almost everyone. More times than not i get either a strike out or a ground out.

Meter wise, i try and get it right in the middle between the yellow and red. I see it as it a perfect mix of speed and break.

That could be it..I might be throwing it too hard.

Throw it Low in the zone and it will have occasional unique break which will induce ground balls with realistic spin.

I Usally try and set em up for a Fastball (manny parra only one on my 25 roster who had one) then throw the splitter down and away, or low and take as much off as possible, its a good pitch if your in a jam and need a DP! you hope they either swing threw it or influence the ground ball to get some needed outs, cant tell u how much that pitched has helped Parra get out of some trouble

My favorite pitch actually.....I use it quite well.

Gotta find the right spot on the meter....Keep it low and use it at the right time (ie dont throw it as your 1st pitch).

Just keep at it....Practice makes perfect....

                  Re: Using the Splitter

My first RTTS pitcher in this year's game had one. What a disaster. It was pretty funny, when he started out and had bad control it would sometimes fly so high in the zone that batters would strike out by swinging under it. As I added points it just seemed to get worse and worse. I had to max out the speed because of the RTTS "first three pitches' speeds limit your fastball speed" rule, which I don't think helped.

I eventually added a changeup that had virtually the same break and was maybe 2-3 mph slower than the splitter, and that pitch turned out to be a killer. Eventually I'd throw the splitter only once or twice a game, like poking a bruise to see if it still hurts. Batters would almost always send it a long way, as if they'd been waiting the whole game to see it.

                    Re: Using the Splitter

I throw it only with 2 strikes, and only away, often out of the zone entirely. I don't want it any closer than on the black. I aim middle of the zone height wise. It will drop to knee level by the end usually, and often I get people to chase it. I was getting splitters crushed when using it with less than 2 strikes for some reason.

I don't have many pitchers that use it but I can use it pretty effectively. I only use it low and outside, and don't fill the meter up to much I tend to under throw it and I get good results.

I found the splitter to not move how much I wanted in the game. I switched Pavano's splitter to a forkball and I maxed out the movement. It's a little better but not what you see on T.V.

                          This is an off-topic post.

For those of you who know Spyda757, I have horrible news to tell you.
Two days ago, at 6:15 am, he has passed away due to a horrible infection and heart failure.
He was rushed into the hospital on Monday February 1st because he was in a lot of pain.
Since the doctors tried their best to take care of him, they just couldnt do it anymore.
I wish there could be a way to revive him back from the dead, like I wanted to have him back, but I can't do it. If there's a way, tell me. He was a best video game player.
All I can say is rest in peace Spyda757. You will be missed.
