Re: Best RttS Position
Re: Best RttS Position
I enjoy playing outfielder. But, I have fielding turned off because it becomes monotonous after a while. I'd be happy with one (guaranteed) fielding opportunity per game but anything after that might be too much - especially when I'm trying to finish a career with 162 games per season. -

Re: Best RttS Position
There's no real best position. The only one that's rather unplayable in 2010 is the catcher because each game takes over an hour. Some might like that but you probably won't even get to the major leagues by the time 2011 rolls around.
Other than that, it depends on a few things.
1) How much fielding action do you want?
From most action to least, I believe it's:
1B
SS/2B
CF
RF/LF
3B
2) Are you willing to sacrifice training points to get less time in the field?
Third base is appealing to some because you only get a few balls hit to you each game but the downside is that a 3rd baseman gets less training points. 1B gets a lot of training points but has to be involved in like half the defensive plays. The others are a mix.
3) Would you rather be close to the pitcher/hitter or does it not matter?
Some people like being close so want to be an infielder. Others like the outfield and having a lot of ground to cover.
4) Would you rather rely on your skill and reactions or a mix of skill and animations?
The only thing I don't like about infield is that it's largely based on animations and for half the plays, requires very little skill at all. The outfield relies completely on the player to see and react to the ball off the bat and then take the best route to the ball. The animation only takes over once you reach the ball. The counter to this is that the infield animations are rather cool, especially turning the double play.
5) Are you entering the draft or not? If not, which team will you join and what position do they need the most?
This is what I used to pick the shortstop position for the Mariners. I would have prefered center field but the M's have Franklin Gutierrez there for a long time and I didn't want to replace him. Jack Wilson is a short term solution at SS so I picked that so I could take over after Jack left.
6) Is it important for you to play a prime defensive position?
I figured since I'll eventually have high defensive ratings, I might as well be able to make use of it at a prime spot (like SS, 2B, or CF). That way my team is a little better than they would have been if I was a 1B.Last edited by Mekias; 05-21-2010, 05:05 PM.Comment

I personally love my 1B / OF Power Hitter.
During AA got a lot of starts all over the outfield, and same with Triple A.Gonzaga Bulldogs|Seattle Mariners|St Louis Cardinals|Seattle Seahawks|Boise State Broncos

I am in my sixth year as a second baseman.
I love it because you get 10-15 points usually, and not infrequently 30-40, as a starting second baseman. This really helps you earn enough points to pass your goals.
Covering the base on steals is rather monotonous, but it is great when you tag a runner out, as you know that is points in the bank.Comment

I like playing LF since it is fun to try to rob homers and gun guys down at home. My only complaint is that a lot of time is wasted loading an at-bat only for the SS/3B to get the play instead of letting it go to the outfield.Comment

Re: Best RttS Position
If you like a quick trip to the majors, make a 1B with secondary 3B position. Playing on legend and batting .260ish in the minors, I spent a year in AA and a year in AAA until I signed a 4 year deal as the starting 1B for the Orioles.
In MLB 09, I spent 5 years in the minors with my 2B, which was most likely just bad luck (injuries/trades).Comment

My faves where I actually played defense was SS, OF then 2B. I would love playing catcher, but I can't turn of catcher mode and only hit when I want.Comment

Re: Best RttS Position
There really isnt a best position. Just play what position you would like to in real life. I pitched me whole life so I have a starter and a reliever that I play with. and just to be able to bat I have a 1b/C/3b player that I play with every once in awhile.HOOK UM HORNS!!!!!Comment
