    Offseason trades and waiver claims

In the offseason, how do you make a trade? I went to the trade menu and tried to trade for RP Matt Thornton and a message popped up that said that playoff eligible players may not be traded after Aug 31. I know this is the waiver trade deadline but i thought trades can be made in the offseason. Just this past offseason the yankees traded for Curtis Granderson who I know was playoff eligible. Also, is there a pending transaction menu in the offseason like there is during the regular season where you can claim players that were DFA or released or removed from the 40 man roster?

Re: Offseason trades and waiver claims

If the player you are trading for was playoff eligible the previous season, you have to wait until Jan. 1 to trade for him. You'll see alot of trades between teams on Jan. 1st-3rd for bigger named players. I've seen Carlos Zambrano traded after the first season 3 times now on 3 different 'chise's on Jan. 1st. So just wait til the 1st.

Nobody ever answered cibo2's second question, and I am trying to do an offseason right now and wondering the same thing. Where is the "pending transactions" menu and how do I claim players off waivers during offseason?

Re: Offseason trades and waiver claims

This is a great question. I have not been able to find it in this year's game. In the past, a pop up window would tell you that X player has been placed on waivers and allow you a chance to claim him. Not so this year. I have also not had a player that I put through waivers get claimed during the off season.

I get it...but only for some players.
          Strange.

You play with 30 team control. Perhaps that is why. Interesting. Quite frankly, I haven't seen anyone put on waivers during this time I would have claimed anyway.

There should be a way to access it through your email (triangle button). If you receive an email saying "so-and-so team waivers" and open that email it will take you to the pending transactions page.

Re: Offseason trades and waiver claims

and if one wants to just look for the pending transactions screen just because...

go to whatever team you choose

                  Roster Moves Heading

                  3 lines down--Pending Transactions

                  press 'X'

                  you'll see Waiver Wire

                  press R1

you'll see that team you're on...their Waiver Requests

                  press R1

you'll see that team's Players Designated for Assignment

                  press R1

                  Trade Offers

                  press R1

                  Trades Proposed

most MOST player moves in my first offseason, I went to Manage Roster, pressed 'X' for the player I wanted to move to another team, then pressed 'X' over Release Player

then I'd go back to Pending Transactions-Waiver Wire (under the team where he SHOULD be goign to) and press 'X' to claim him....he'll automatically go to that team....even teams that are over budget can get players that way...whereas trading won't work out:wink:

                    Nice!

Hey RC....you gotta be diggin' the player vault, right?...I had all of us in mind when I asked for individual imports...but guys like you specifically who didn't do a complete set en masse...but individuals. Too bad no in franchise import yet...but I see that coming.

Thanks for the tip on moving players for over budget teams!

                      Knight,
Do you know if they ever fixed the bug where you can not trade until Jan 1?

                        I don't.
I did put it down on the list when I was there on things to check(them to check into I mean).
I noted that you were under the impression...the game doesn't realize the W.S. is over....until Jan 1st(opening up the trade channel)...(that was it...right?)

Re: Offseason trades and waiver claims

Kniiiiiiight! Whats good? I woulda NEVER thought I have had one on you! The king of the workarounds? Wow LOLOLOL

I love the player vault....and you know what? Honestly, if there's nothing for it in franchise, I'm good...the way I do things, I wont miss it anyway...

My sched is like SCEA's...I mean the only time in the last year that I was basically off from doing anything rosters-wise was December 2010/and about 2 weeks into 2011.....that's it LOL

I first discovered this workaround while playing in my 2010 franchise. Right after the real-life trade of Oswalt going to the Phils. I tried moving him and the over budget message came up. I hadn't noticed Philly was over....

At first I was gonna do one of those three team trades, but then I realized in this case, it wouldn't work...so something told me to release him. I did that. But my initial mistake was that I had all of the NL Central teams place a claim (LMAO)...stupid me (duh!)..so whomever was in last place at the time (cant remember now) claimed him. LOL THAT wasnt gonna work, so I released him from that wrong team and made sure I only claimed him with the Phillies. In a couple of days he was automatically assigned to the Phils' AAA team and from there it was a wrap!
