The 12 / 6 Curve

The 12 / 6 curve, and the FASTBALL up in the zone look IDENTICAL to me. I cannot for the life of me tell the difference. If you want to strike me out, throw the 12 / 6 to me with two strikes, and I'm toast. I swing 4 hours too early. K Millwood makes me look like a right FOOL!!!

One way to practice is to use guess pitch. Always select fastball, so when you see the 12/6 coming, you know it will be an offspeed pitch, and hence will break.

Yeah I'm not really looking for answers, I'm decent at hitting (not great). And I have guess pitch on but with "no response". I was just venting. It's the one pitch that I have so much trouble with. I found myself trying to avoid getting deep into the count, knowing it was coming - hahaha.

Being a Met fan, I want nothing to do wit the 12-6 Curveball either. I still don't understand how Adam Wainwright looked so bad loading the bases and then busted out that curve to Beltran.

I went from being a pretty good/great hiter on my old standard TV, to being a horrible hitter once I moved to a big screen (52") HD tv.

Now I admit, my sliders tend to be geared towards good hitting for me, but even with that slider set, I can no longer hit, because I can't seem to read pitches to save my life. I thought that going from 36" standard def, to a 52" hi def would help me see the ball better, but instead it seems to make it a million times worse.

I have been playing on this TV for about a month, and still can't seem to get it down.

I had the same issue too when I upgraded.

Try turning the pitch speed down 3-5 clicks from where you have it. If you're already below default currently, you may need to drop a difficulty level (pitch speed seems to slow down as you drop levels).

And turn "game mode" on if you have one on your HD, or manually disable any filtration or smoothing.

The 12-6 curve can be tricky. Though unless I'm sitting dead red on a fastball, I can usually pick up on it. Once you have the pitch recognition down(which btw, takes some time..), it's just a matter of laying off the ones below your knees.

If I'm facing a pitcher with a decent curve, I just make sure I don't swing at any pitches that start breaking around my batter's belt line or lower(depends on the batter's height and break of the curve). I almost make like a imaginary cut-off line in the strike zone, and try to lay off any curves that start off below that point.

If the pitcher is dealing, and really hitting his spots with the curve, then you just have to be patient and know that you're still going to get nailed by a well placed hook. Though every pitcher in this game is still going to make their fair share of mistakes. There's nothing quite like seeing a 12-6 curve that starts off belly high, and then yanking that meatball 15 rows deep.

When it's down to 2 strikes, you just have to make an educated guess based on pitch confidence and pitch preference. This is what most pro hitters have to do when a guy throws a good fastball/curveball combination. There's just not enough time react.

In other words, yes this is frustrating but also a delightfully realistic challenge. Adapt! (And I don't mean "turn on guess pitch and cheat!")
