pick offs?

I know I'm missing something stupidly easy here, but how do you pick off a runner using the pure analog pitching? L1 steps off the rubber.........tried a ton of combinations but can't get it consistently.

love the game so far, so glad I came over to ps3 from xbox!

there are three different pick offs. All pickoffs include the buttons:
L2+one tap: casual pickoff. it's slow and will get no one out. just says that i'm watching you
L2+ 2 tap: quick pick off. Can pick off people and is usually pretty fast.
L2+hold: deceptive pick off. Starts meter, but then pickoffs. Can only use to first base when you have a lefty.

The deceptive move also does the fake to third, throw to first move when runners are on the corners and a righty is on the mound (haven't tried it with a lefty...)

You also have to remember that it depends on what perspective you are pitching from. If it is from behind the pitcher you would use L2 + [] and from the catcher cam it would be L2 + O.

What part isn't working? You have to select a pitch and come set before you can make a pickoff move.
