Does anyone play this game for fun?

It seems that there's an overwhelming obsession with absolute realism with this game. On some level, I get it - it's a simulation. But if all you're doing is tweaking to make sure you get the EXACT stats a player will in real life, even if it means switching to "Timing" style hitting, is it even fun? What's the point of playing?

Personally, I like Zone hitting and trying to hit 70 home runs with, say, Nick Swisher.

I mean, it's just a video game. The 'real thing' is available to watch on TV or play in real life. I'm not saying everyone but me is wrong - to each their own, and everyone is certainly free to play the game as they see fit! But for me, fantasy draft with DH in both leagues is the way to go!

I dont go for exact sim, I end up gettin bored with my play if I have more pitchers duals than anything. I prefer a more offensive game..Id rather see 8-5 wins every game over 2-1 wins. Like I said somewhere else, this game is too pretty to not see the ball go everywhere. I love playin D and runnin the bases too..Besides its just more fun being able to pitch well and bat well..Nothing worse than getting 3 hits or less over 9 innings of play.

And although no, I dont wanna have scutaro hitting 40hrs, I like when everyones hittin.

im not nearly as hardcore as a lot of guys on here, but I think to a lot of us, the fun is in the realism.

I think EVERYONE plays the game for fun. It's just that what defines "fun" is different for each person.

Exactly. The fun is the realism. Just as you like to try to smash 70 with Swish, I like to have a realistic experience.

Like I said - to each their own. I shouldn't have asked if anyone plays for "fun" - poor word choice. Obviously, everyone plays for fun! What I meant, and some of you picked up on this, was whether anyone plays for and enjoys results that are 'more than realistic'.

I think if your picking up the game to play buddies and online then mash away...but for those doing franchises no one I assume wants to go 162 - 0 whats the fun in that...4-4 with 4 HRs a game no fun there either...pretty much if your over 13 you should at least be challenging yourself to add some realism into your sports gaming.

What makes the Show so great, I think, is by trying to reproduce baseball as realistically as possible (in video game environment), it provides so many different ways to enjoy the game.

Play like one of the players in a team?
                  Wanna manage a team?
                  Be a GM?
Want to watch baseball as if played on TV?

They are all there. All this because SCEA is successful in recreating true baseball feel and environment.

Yea like me personally I love playing 2 - 1 or 3 - 2 or 1 - 0 Games because I'm on the edge of my seat with every pitch I throw. If I leave a hanger over the plate my heart skips a beat cause I know the guy currently at the dish can send that pitch into the next atmosphere. I do enjoy the 8 - 1 or 8 - 5 games every once in a while though, don't get me wrong, I like every type of game, Blow outs, or Close games, that's what makes sports so fun! You never really know what your going to get!

I second this. I like all types of games, blow outs, close, and everything in between. Games get boring to me if i blow the other team out every game. So for me it is fun to have a certain amount of realism.

Realism meh, I want to break some records!, Honestly I realism is good but not to the point where every game is 1-0. Thankfully with a game like this you can have it either way! My scores are typically in the 7-5 range, more action more fun yet not totally over the top acrcade like say "the bigs" and LOVE how it depends on the pitching match up. I had Chapman (as a starter) squaring off against Matt Cain last night went to 10 innings won 3-1 but the night before was Brad Bergesen Vs some nobody on the pirates and it was 9-5. Thats fun! where as some of the "realsim guys" would be upset that a score got that high,

If you're over 13, you should be challenging yourself to be more involved in sports that are actually real. That aside...

I don't like going 162-0. I don't like winning every game 17-2 (All Star Baseball, anyone?!). I don't want everyone in my lineup (or anyone at all) to actually hit 70 bombs. I just think the obsession with totally 100% accurate stats is a bit bizarre is all. It's a freakin' video game!

My opinions are as valid as anyone elses. I was simply asking to hear from others, like myself, who look to video games as an escape from real life and not as an alternative to it.

your saying the same things we are...no one want all 1-0, 2-1 game but no one wants all 11-3 games either. the major of the game will prolly be 4-2 or 6-4 with some great games with top pitchers being the 2-1 1-0 variety...and of course your gonna blow a few teams out and prolly get hammered a few times too...ITS BASEBALL! and thats how it should be...its a game that when you fail 7 out of ten times your an ALL STAR.

I think you'll find that most of the guys here will say they will use games like Call Of Duty or Halo for the escape...everyone has their own play style and as long you enjoy the game then thats all the matters in the end. Personally I like sim, I try to find sim style gamers for on line play but with baseball you can play online with almost anyone and have a good time.
