No Name Pitch? (That ate me alive..)

So i was playing RTTS and the coach signals a hit and run...the first pitch was way low so the runner goes and steals second. As we all i'm sure know, if the hit and run is on and you don't make contact, the runner will repeat this process and steal third and eventually home until you actually put the ball into play, but something weird happened when he went to steal third..

The pitch came out with a REALLLLY high release point and looked like it was gonna sail wild, but then it kinda took a knuckleball-style break and came down in the zone in a hurry. I finally figured "i should probably swing at this garbage" but even after all this waiting and getting caught off guard, i was still WAY too early. I'm like "WTF was that" and look at the pitch info before the next pitch. It said:

    "Pitch Type:
    -- - 46 MPH"

Anybody seen this or any variation of it? It broke from about a foot above my helmet and ended up hitting about a game-world inch below the strike zone. Needless to say, i wish i would have sat on it and smashed it, given the break i feel like i could have teed off slow-pitch softball style..

That sounds crazy. I have not seen that yet.

It pretty much felt exactly like that, would be hilarious if that was programmed in. If it was intentional, they should have put "?" as the pitch type instead of "--" i feel like.

BTW, good to see LFC represented here. YNWA

I seen that pitch when i was playing MLB The Show on the alien space craft that abducted me 3 days ago. Just kidding. That is very strange, but ive learned not to doubt anything when it comes to video games.

I think I saw this yesterday. It didn't have a lot of movement, but it came out of the pitcher's hand looking like it was going to sail over the backstop, then dropped straight down and bounced in front of the plate. It registered 50mph, and I could be wrong but I might have been in a H&R myself.

I just read your last post, and I definitely played Oakland yesterday too. It must be someone on their roster. Although, my 2nd year RTTS rosters are so screwed up because of cpu trades, it might be hard to find the pitcher.

Could be replicated as long as the runner actually steals second, because if you don't swing (or just don't make contact) the runner repeats the process as if he doesn't realize he just stole second. Pre-patch, if he stole third the same way, he's try to steal home and have to collide with the catcher...maybe after the patch in an attempt to fix it the pitcher throws a "no value" pitch (which wouldn't HELP the situation, because it guarantees that the runner gets third based on how slow the pitch is). I'll have to try to replicate it next hit-and-run i get..

I'm in the same boat, it's season 3 on my RTTS so tracing it back to one guy is tough. It was IN Oakland for me tho...maybe that's what happens if the pitchers tries a pitchout in that situation? related to the pitchout fix or something? i guess it's nice we found some commonality between the two occurances...

i remember reading a menu guide on the mlb 11 demo and i went to pitch types, it listed everything, even the gyroball, it also, interestingly enough, listed the eephus pitch as EEP or EPH, i forget, and i cant find that same guide on the full game now, so it makes me wonder about the fact that maybe they had it in the game, but took it out, but forgot one pitcher, who knows? because i know i can change one of Dice-k's pitches to be a gyroball

I remember reading this as well. Maybe this guys throws a slow knuckleball, that pitch does not move at all this year.

The guide is still in the game. You just have to be in the middle of a game to access it. It has changed however, it just lists basic pitch types now; fastball, change-up, curveball, slider.

I saw something similar but I think that's just a REALLY bad pitch. Mine literally hit the ground about 5 feet in front of the plate, I actually reacted really quickly and fouled it off as it came back up towards me. I think it was instinct to protect.

I wondered that, if maybe it was a pitch so bad as to be undefinable, which would be fairly realistic as long as it only happens once in a blue moon..
