Thinking about scrapping this pitcher and starting anew. The 94 mph change-up is at this point just a slower fastball that gets hammered.
It's because an RTTS pitchers pitch speed is tied to the velocity of the average of each pitch. Dropping a 40 velocity pitch will make your other pitches faster. Change ups lower in speed as you increase velocity.

Thanks. I'll try again on developing a change. So right now I've got 4-seam, running fastball and slider all velocity 99 (which worked fine for the slider topping out at 86 for me before the magic 5 mph bump). Say I add a change-up. It would start with velocity rating at 40. As I increase the velocity attribute, what can I expect the velocity of the change-up to get to? Would the game let it get below 90? I had previously tried to add a curveball which stayed 77-80 (dropped it, too much home runs) which didn't affect the speed of my other pitches.

Re: I want to switch up my repertoire this year.

My lefty is 4-seam, slider, circle-change, and then I added a 2-seam fairly quickly, probably will add a curve of some type later on (this guy is a starter). It's important to be able to change speeds and direction of break. I'd love to be able to throw a 2-seam and a cutter both, to get a pitch that looks very similar to the batter, but breaks different directions at the end. But, you can only have so many pitches.

As a reliever, I could definitely see going with 3 kinds of fastball and then two breaking pitches. Generally, in real life, average relievers are two-pitch guys and starters are three-pitch guys. The elite guys start adding more pitches, but you can make it to the bigs with having 2 or 3 quality pitches, depending on your role.

And there are recognized common combinations in real life. Guys will be known as a fastball/slider or sinker/slider pitchers. Or fastball/curve. Then add a changeup to that, and a 2nd fastball type.
