After a few weeks of horrendous results, I decided to lower the pitch speed from 5 to 4, and am finally getting great results. But I still feel like I'm cheating now. Make me feel better. Did you lower pitch speed?

Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
I play on All-Star, timing hitting. I HATE HATE HATE messing with any games sliders to go in my favor, because it always feels like cheating and ruins the game experience for me (it was even tough for me to finally realize that while they're are two levels above it, "All-star" is actually a legit challenge for "the show").

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
I lowered it to 2 I believe. I enjoy the game, play it how you enjoy it. I enjoy it when I have a fair chance, and while some may think it's cheating or let their pride stay in their way, if you realize you have to lower pitch speed and do it you're going to have much more fun with the game.
While some may be able to keep up with the regular (or higher) pitch speed, I certainly can't and they have the pitch speed slider there so people can tailor the game for their skillset. -

my sig says it all. Another thanks to Evan_OS for putting to words how I've always felt about my sports games. You do what you want in your association, don't let others ruin the fun. Just because other people say it's cheap doesn't mean you have to let it affect your association, just have fun - Evan_OSComment

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
Do what you gotta do, man.
I had Pitch Speed at 3 but just today bumped it up a tick to 4, as I was starting to crush most pitchers. We'll see if 4 is enough of a change or if I'll have to go back to default.
I liked dropping the speed b/c it allowed me to work on reading pitches, work the counts and wait for my pitch to hit and really drive it.Currently Playing:

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
I've got it set to 1. I don't care as I can now see the ball and hit it or take it! I simply couldn't see pitches on the higher speed. My eyes are old. Sliders are there to make the game playable for you.Comment

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
That's why they put sliders in the game. Sports games have become so complex that not everyone can play at the same level. You shouldn't feel bad at all.
What I'd like to know is how anyone could possibly hit if the bumped the pitch speed way up.Comment

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
I also have it set at 1. I still strikeout my share of times, but don't walk all too often. Which is what I am trying to work on. Once I adjust to recognizing pitches and laying off the high or in the dirt pitches, I'll raise the pitch speed.Comment

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
Sliders are there for a reason, so adjust to suit yourself. My goal is realistic stats, so if that means leave everything as-is out of the box, so be it. But if not, there's no shame in changing things. It's only cheating if you adjust to the point of grossly inflated stats...but even then, if that's how someone wants to play, it's their 60 bucks!
And yes, I've lowered pitch speed the last 2 years.Comment

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
I have it at 3. I love that the Pitch Speed slider is even in the game at all. I don't recall it being there in MLB 09.
I'm not ashamed to admit I'm not as good as others here. I play on Veteran (pitching & hitting). Just moved up my fielding to All-Star. I have increased a few of my hitting sliders and turned down some of the CPU's pitching sliders.
I'm getting realistic, and fun, results. That's my goal.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
People need to forget about the idea that adjusting sliders is cheating. Developers put sliders in sports games because while one person might have great reflexes and think the pitch speed is too slow, others might think it is too fast.
Don't be afraid to adjust in order to achieve good results. It's neither fun nor realistic to strike out 14 times a game just because the pitch speed is too fast.Ryan Spencer

Re: Make me feel better about lowering the pitch speed.
I dropped my pitch speed all the way down. I got tired of not being able to hit a single fast ball. Even all the way down, it is still pretty fast and I can't get around on a Verlander fastball unless I am in a hitter's count. And even then, there is a chance that I will be way early if he drops the change. At default, I never walked because I could only look to swing at breaking pitches. Now, I can get a split second longer of a read, and thus don't have to swing at every curve ball. Just play how you want to play and don't feel bad about it. Nobody here is looking over your shoulder and judging you.Comment
