    Perfect timing swing and miss...

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I find that I get a lot of swing and misses with analog hitting when the batting analysis says "perfect" for the timing.

Is this tied strictly to a particular players contact rating, or is there more to it?

Perhaps the pitcher threw the pitch exactly like he wanted it.....someone has to "lose" when both pitcher and hitter are perfect.

Hitting small round ball with a round bat is pretty hard. The bat can't cover everywhere the ball can be thrown. Timing isn't everything. Pitcher and hitter abilities come into play.

And yea, it has been asked before.

If you were rewarded every time you timed your swing perfectly, the hitting in this game would get old very fast.

It's funny how no one really complains when they squeak out a hit with less than perfect timing, or with poor PCI placement.

So how much of Analog hitting is my skill? 30%? 50%? It gets a little frustrating having so little control. It's kind of like playing a catcher in RTTS. I can call the pitches but it's the pitcher's skill that determines success. While this is all far more realistic, sometimes I get the feeling that I'm watching the computer play against itself. I might eventually go back to zone hitting but I like the idea of analog so I'll keep going with it a bit longer.

Funny you should mention that. I doubled with Mark Teixera (batting from the right) to LF when I was late on an inside fastball.

Like they say in the game, "Even the best hitters fail 7 out of 10 times". Sometimes you can have perfect timing and just miss the ball, happens a lot in real life.

Re: Perfect timing swing and miss...

I think it depends on where you swung the bat, i.e. low or above the pitch. Perfect timing only means you had perfect timing. When i get that it's b/c i used an inside swing on an pitch outside.

Re: Perfect timing swing and miss...

The day I figured out that ratings have a big influence on the way this game plays is the day I really started to enjoy it.

On that day it went from being a game that didn't seem to work quite right, to a brilliant game of strategy and thought.

Exactly...you don't know how many times I have been too late or too early and still smoked a pitch.

Also MOST times when get perfect timing your good, but that doesnt always mean you get perfect results.

                    I like it.

Re: Perfect timing swing and miss...

I really was just looking for some information on how the ratings come into play when using analog hitting. For instance, contact gives you a bigger "solid hit" zone... plate vision helps you swing the bat at a better location relative to the pitch... etc.

How exactly does discipline come into play? I assume that may have a lot to do with how easily you can check swing and what not.

whoa! knight my friend, i have alot of respect for you and your work here on the site but there are many times where in real life a pitcher hits his spot and the hitter just beats him...i always think when i swing and miss a "perfect" swing, i just think that the level of my swing was off, not my timing...but im my opinion i dont see why someone has to "lose"...if a fair result has to be made then i would like the hitter fouling a ball off would be best fit

Re: Perfect timing swing and miss...

I have this happen all the time. When I check the analysis, the PCI is never anywhere close to where the ball is. Is there a way to move the PCI? I don't know how many 1st pitch "BP" FB's I have missed with perfect timing only to look at the PCI and it is looking for a ball in the dirt. It seems like the PCI ignores pitchers tendancies. I get pounded low and away, yet the PCI is never looking there.

On that same note, the CPU hitters have rediculous "eyes". In RTTS, I can throw a pitch in the dirt, or way off the plate, and somehow, the CPU hitter will get good woodon it and hit it in the air. When I check the analysis, their PCI is dead on the ball no matter how much of a ball it was. I don't care who you are, you are not going to get the bat under a forkball that is 4 inches off the ground. Unless you are the CPU.

                            I don't think you're getting my point.
If the pitcher throws a perfect/perfect pitch and the batter has a perfect/perfect swing....someone "wins" and someone "loses" in that battle and it's not always the same player.
They "lose" in that particular situation.
Sometimes the lose is a base hit(lose for the pitcher)....sometimes it's a K(lose for the batter)
                            It happens.
