Eight IS awesome.
I think that's great.
I played a game yesterday.....one of the few I actually play...and had 4 walks through the first four innings....I was thinking I was going to cruise to a win....but the CPU changed pitchers...it threw me off and I struck out 7 times in the final 5 innings including a K to end the game with the winning runs on base.
I was still happy to have walked four times. Even in the loss.

I'd rather have 8 walks than HR's, niiiiiice. It gives you a cool sense of realism that you can look up and see the pitch count semi high for the CPU.Comment

Re: sadly, this is what makes my day...
My high so far is 6, though one was intentional.
I've basically spent most of my time with this game trying to adjust sliders to get a realistic amount of walks, and have come pretty close so far.
BBs are a small but very important part of adding to the realism of a game. If you aren't getting to that average of approximately 3 per game, per team, then it's going to throw all the other numbers off as well.
So being able to both draw and issue walks at a somewhat realistic pace in this game is huge. I think they've done a good job with that this year. All ties severed...Comment

Re: sadly, this is what makes my day...
Last night in my Cubs franchise I drew back to back 4 pitch walks to start the game vs wandy rodriguez. First time I have ever had something like that happen to start a game. I ended up drawing 5 walks total for the game.
The most walks in a game with MLB 11 has been 9 in an exibition game vs the nationals.BCS Express - TCU (yr 1 12-1)(yr 2 10-2)

Re: sadly, this is what makes my day...
Great job.
Most I have drawn with this years game is 6 and oh yes it felt so good.
I have been able to draw 3 to 4 a game and had a couple of 5 walk games thus far. Walks are there if you work that count. And I will say it again...on 0-2 and 1-2 counts the Contact swing is fantastic. I am really having some **** 10-12 pitch battles and then working the count back to 3-2...and getting the walks.
The CPU does pitch around hot guys and star hitters. A-Rod has been on a a tear (11 HR's through 19 games...insane) and I have been getting pitched around in my last 4 games. He has drawn 5 walks in the last 4 games. Now Playing on PS5:

Re: sadly, this is what makes my day...
i actually looked at last yr team stats for BBs and SOs...if you can draw 2-4 walks a game, then its realistic...if you can strikeout 7-9 times a game, thats realistic as well...i always shoot for 2, if i get that early, then i try for 4...i pretty much just try to get to a full count every abat and hope i can lay off the low changeup/slider..Comment

Re: sadly, this is what makes my day...
I've never hit 8. I've eked out 6 walks in a game.
I'm still last in the league in walks, but at least I'm tied for last, so it's not like it's some crazy statistical outlier.Comment

Re: sadly, this is what makes my day...
I have no trouble getting the opposing pitcher's pitch count up, I just can't quite seem to get that 4th ball frequently.
I just finished a great game about an hour ago where I got Roy Halladay to throw 101 pitches in 4 and 1/3 innings. I got 10 hits and 4 runs but only walked once. I got to a 3 ball count probably 6 or 7 times, but he just kept throwing borderline pitch after borderline pitch that I just couldn't lay off of due to the often times horrible variable strikezone.
Most I've had in a game is 4 off of Chris Carpenter. It's weird I drive the pitch count up better and draw more walks against top flight pitchers than I do against scrubs. As a matter of fact, Nelson Figueroa took a no hitter to the 8th against me and then took another to the 7th. Yet, Halladay can't get out of the 5th inning!Comment

Re: sadly, this is what makes my day...
In 16 games, I've drown 60 walks (3.75 per game) good for 6th place in the majors.
My problem is I have about 6-7 walks with a bunch of players (Dunn Konerko Quentin Rios Beckham Pierre). I want my walk numbers to be close to the "fear" a batter could put on a pitcher.
IRL, Dunn will be walked 100 times a season whereas Pierre will draw about 50 walks. In my franchise, I could end with maybe 60 walks with Dunn but 60 also with Pierre.
Maybe one solution is having a "fear" rating for each batter (different from plate vision/discipline). For example, Pujols would have a 99 "fear" rating, meaning the opposite pitcher will throw it a ton of borderline pitches and of course miss it.
And a guy like Pudge would have a 20 "fear" rating.
I know in a certain way this is how some ratings are working but maybe that another rating could influence more the battle between pitcher/batter.
You could also think that a "fear sensitivity" rating could be add to the pitchers. A Cliff Lee guy will rather throw a strike even to Pujols in a 3-1 count than a Scott Kazmir.
Just a thought !Comment

Re: sadly, this is what makes my day...
I just played a game against the Yankees where I walked 11 times. I ended up winning the game 6-2 with only 4 hits. Every inning, Campbell would say "it isn't often a team has more runs than hits." I also struck out 9 times, and hit into 4 double plays. I still felt good about the effort though, as I chased their starter and two long relievers.Comment
