    Fast Play

Hey guys. Does anybody use fast play? If so, how often? I just played half a game with this on and, man, does it take up so much less time! I LOVE this game but I'm trying to complete a whole season playing every single game. . .but 1 game with all the presentation on takes up at least an hour and 20 minutes. I was thinking of maybe having the presentation on only for the special/important games, to make them even more exciting?

    Thoughts?

    Re: Fast Play

I have yet to use Fast Play, but it could be an option going forward. I LOVE all of the little things in this game, though, so it would be VERY difficult to turn all of that stuff off and just play the game.

      Re: Fast Play

I use it for pretty much all my games. My games take about 45 minutes to 1 hour with it on.

It made sense to me. I skip most all of the cutscenes, except the interesting stats-based ones (like pitches per inning, park dimensions, etc). I do wish they'd flesh it out more so that I could see the flashbacks to replays of HR's and some of the more important replays and cut scenes, but when it comes down to it, I want to get through games quickly so I can finish out a season (and more)!

They REALLY sped the game up in Fast Play mode from MLB 09 to MLB 11, too. Almost too fast, sometimes I have to call timeout in order to get a pinch hitter out there. You have like a 0.5 second window to press start to watch the previous replay or else you have to hit the Replay Vault.

        Re: Fast Play

I use it sometimes. I don't like missing the cut scene after a HR though. It just seems weird to have the action start right back up again so soon after a HR.

          Re: Fast Play

I'll be interested to hear some different opinions on this. I have yet to use it, but am seriously considering. As I posted in a different thread, I usually have to wait until the rest of the family goes to bed at night before playing, and it's a struggle to get in a full game or two and still be able to get enough sleep for work in the morning. I just don't want to feel like I am missing out on the whole experience.

I will tell you this, though, I have gotten myself in trouble trying to speed up the game by pressing X to get through replays or to get to the next pitch. At least twice now, I've had a runner (who I had taken control of) slide into 3rd on a close play, and then while the 3rd baseman was fumbling around with the ball, or my 3rd base coach was talking to me, I would press X to advance the game...and off went my runner toward home, resulting in a run-down and ultimate put out. That's tough to stomach.

            Re: Fast Play

Personally, I dont use it but I think the option is fantastic for others. For me, I love the game and the slow nature of MLB in real life and love the cutscenes and such.

You can never have too many options though as long as they re implemented correctly.

If you're having a problem with this, try turning the pitch delay to "Slower" in gameplay options. It's independent of the fast play option and will increase the time between when the pitcher resets and when he selects his pitch and comes set. It's not a HUGE time difference and you still need to be aware that you're about to make a change, but it gives you a little more time.

Same here. I'll change over to broadcast for a few batters to embrace the aviance of the moment.

I was wondering if the pitch delay option made a difference in Fast Play or not. I had turned it to "Faster" for when I play on Broadcast, thought about changing it to "Slower" but never did. I'll give it a try.

I posted in the "wish list" thread that similar to the camera editor feature added this year, it would be cool to have a presentation editor feature in the future.

Something to allow us to fast-play, but with our choice of desired cut-scenes or stat overlays or replays.

Aaaaarg! I thought I was the only one

Great thread though. I will try this option tonight. I am all about playing all 162 games. But I only dont want to spend more than 2 months playing a season. That means I have to average over 2.5 games per day.

I hate simming games. I hate seeing a player I have never hit a homerun with; now has like 5 homeruns. Or a guy who is ice cold for me; but he is slugging .450.

Plus, the CPU never used the bench right. I hate seeing any player below half energy for more than 1 game tops. The CPU will use my players to the bitter end all the way to their grave! So, I started going into the game, then quitting/simming the game. But that only ensures I have control of the offense.

The pitchers are still at the mercy of the CPU. They have my weak SP throw 125 pitches when I dont have an off day in sight.

Then, I used to quit/sim games after 5 innings if either team had a 5 run lead. But the CPU would use all my best RPs, not my long guys; the garbage men. I like my long guys to pitch 2-4 innings in a blowout game.

Also, most importantly, I like to dive into my stats twice a season and decide whether or not I need to adjust difficulty levels/sliders. Right now, my team batting average is #4, but my contact rating is #25. My power is rated #1 but my team HRs are #12th. I wouldn't see these descrepencies if I was simming games.

So I am interested to see if fast play is worth the sacrafice.

Works like a charm. But now I feel it's too slow after playing on the warp speed Fast Play with "Faster" pitch delay.

                            Re: Fast Play

I start the game in "Real Time" generally through the first inning or two. I do that so I can see my player's and opponents batting averages, rbi, and homeruns. I then switch to "Fast Play". I'll sometimes go back to "Real Time" in the 9th with one or two outs to go.

They definitely have sped up "Fast Play", especially on foul balls and in between pitches. Ocassionally still there will be a longer than normal pause when the catcher doesn't field the ball cleanly and he'll stand up for 5-8 seconds.

The one negative is that I sometimes am unable to get in a pinch hitter even if I'm hitting the up button on the d-pad. I often times have to wait until pitch two of the at bat. But I've learned to call time and that seems to help.

I couldn't imagine not playing this game in "Fast Play"!

                              Re: Fast Play

                              Every single game.

Im limited time to begin with, but after playing fastplay ... I just cANnot understand how folks tolerate the pacing of the regular speed game.

If youre going to play the game where you take quite a few pitches, use great plate discipline, and pitch realistically on the mound with challenging sliders, theres going to be loyts of pitches and games could take a coupla hours each.

FWIW, I played a 17-game the other day that featured 11 walks (combined), 14 runs, 31 hits, and 23 strikeouts, and 511 (combined pitches @65% strikes). I cannot imagine playing a game like that at the regular pace.

I also realize how foolish it is to press "X" 400 times a game just to advance the action. Seriously, count how many times you press X to move the game faster.

If you want to see something again with fastplay, they have this feature called "instant replay", which I hear lets you watch a play again, and from lots of angles.

Player v. Player I wouldnt. Single player, i cant imagine playing any other way (if the goal is to complete a season, or multiple seasons).
