The pitch formely known as the splitter currently owns rights to that name. -

I also used to get lid up with my curveball. That is, until I started cheating and using API.
You will then notice the catcher wants 90% of the curveballs to land well below the strike zone. I did not trust it either at first, but then was just "fine, here you go; ill bounce it in". Wow, what a difference. Half of the curveballs do what they were intended to do and land in very low for a harmless ball. The other half dont have as much break or as much control, and end up either in or just below the bottom edge of the strike zone.

Perhaps. I just have horrible outcomes with it. And I'm just frustrated because I just finished a game...
I was up 8-6, bottom of the ninth. They have two on. My catcher calls for a curveball. I go against my initial instinct and actually throw it, even putting it a little lower than asked...
BOOM. 3 run homer... game over.
Just frustrated, that's all.Comment

Curveballs have a tendency to hang in this game, which is actually what happens in real-life. Location and control is probably the most important thing but man is it hard to locate them low consistently. Some players have great curveballs, but they truly are a BP pitch most of the time.Comment

Curveballs are pretty effective pitches in the game IMO as long as you throw it low in the zone or below the zone. The curveball/high fastball combo is dynamite. Throw a high fastball after a curveball and the CPU usually swings under the high fastball because it thinks it's the curve. And, throwing a curveball after a high fastball usually results in the CPU being way over the curveball.Comment

You have to establish confidence in the pitch first, you can't just randomly throw your first curve of the game with RISP and 2 strikes. I used to struggle with curveballs but I'm learning when to use them now. I definitely agree on the Splitter being garbage though.Comment

I love it when the computer hangs a Curve, almost always a blast.
And as long as you keep the curve down in the zone, and away from the batter, it won't hurt you.Comment

If I'm going to throw a curve in the zone it is early in the count. When I'm ahead in the count I never throw it in the zone. I try to keep everything on the edges of the zone, obviously. Doesn't mean that it works thought because my team is among the league leaders in HR allowed.Moderator

Re: They need to change the name of the "Curveball" in this game.
Just like in real life, you need to use curves judiciously and, probably more than just about any other pitch, it's on a game-to-game basis as to whether or not it can be relied upon regularly. Even when it's going good, you shouldn't just be dropping curves over the plate over and over...it's meant to keep hitters off balance, and you can't do that if you over-use it. It's important to have your FB working well too, as that's what often makes the curve a real threat. If they have to respect your fastball, they're more likely to fall victim to your curve.
When ahead, keep it out of the zone. When you're behind, you can try to sneak it in in fastball counts, but always keep it low and don't be afraid to walk a guy rather than hanging a gift for the batter. Try to work it in sparingly at first to get it established (both in terms of confidence and the AI believing you can throw it for a strike) and then man...once you get that confidence in it up, it's nasty.Comment

This.
Indeed, you have to maximize confidence in that pitch.
I also throw it soon in the game for strike, to build the confidence.
And as other said, the FB / CB combo is devastating.Comment
