    Power swing? anyone use it?

Hey guys does anyone use the power swing?

I tend to use it when I guess the position and pitch type correct but I am not sure if it's worth it.

Majority of the time its a line drive out...

    what do you guys do!?

I never use it. I pop up constantly using it. I have plenty of power with the normal swing

I use it when I'm expecting something off-speed and have decent success with it. I have an RTTS guy right now with 4 home runs at the all-star break and 3 of them have come off the power swing.

alright yeah. I think I'll just use the normal swing and use the contact for 2 strike situations.

I only use it a few times a game, but I think the reward is worth the risk.

I don't use guess pitch though.. I would maybe use it a little more often if I knew the general location and speed of the pitch.

Never! Normal swing all the way. I don't use contact or power swing. Did use contact when I first got the game just to test it but I always get a weak grounder so normal it is for me

I don't use it very much but it has some usefulness. I only use it when well ahead in the count, guessing a pitch, and sitting on a location. I think it's only helpful with straight pitches like fastballs and change-ups, because contact is key. Nearly every time I have made good contact, I've hit the ball hard, but it produces a fair number of line outs.

It is very rewarding when you use it and club a ball for a monster home run. But I think most of the time the risks of it outweigh the reward.

It always turns into double plays for me, I stay away, unless I'm already way ahead in the game and just feel like experimenting/padding stats.

I never was a fan of power swing, but I started using it recently when I got an advancement goal in RTTS to hit three HRs, despite my guy has had none through the season. Now that I've miraculously hit 5 over the past dozen games, I can say this. If you are going for the fence, it makes sense under certain situations.

Check swing becomes almost impossible, so I'd only use it in hitters counts, and when you can sit on a particular pitch and nothing else. If there is any possibility that I want to check my swing, I don't use it in those situations.

i never use it, never did good with it, get way more power with normal swing, long as i time right and sweet spot the ball, sweet spot on a normal swing pwns a power swing majority of the time. i also tend to use a level swing, not sure if it really works or not but it seems to have helped so ive stuck with it. low or high swings seem to never work.

I use it on 3-0 counts, when I guess pitch and location right...

That is the only time i use power swing, or guess pitch.

Re: Power swing? anyone use it?

                        Here's my system...

I have an approach chart for every guy vs LH and RH pitchers.

The three approaches are called POWER, NORMAL, and SHORT

A POWER approach guy will guess pitches and location when ahead and use the power swing when guessed correctly.

A NORMAL approach guy will guess location OR pitch when ahead, but use a normal swing when guessing right. I usually guess location on 2-0 and pitch on 3-1 (I almost always take 3-0 with a normal guy unless it's a hung offspeed pitch)

A SHORT approach guy never guesses pitch or location, never uses the power swing and uses the contact swing with 2 strikes.

This is the normal approach...game situations dictate specific approaches.

I determine the proper approach the following way:

POWER: POWER rating > 75 AND CONTACT rating >50 (eyeballed from meter) vs. pitcher handedness

SHORT: POWER rating < 50 AND CONTACT rating <75 vs. pitcher handedness

                        NORMAL: Every other combination.

It's possible to have a guy be a POWER approach against lefties and a SHORT approach against righties for instance depending on his rating splits.

This approach thing takes some getting used to but pays dividends when you get the hang of it in game.

When I'm pissed or the offense is sputtering I go for the old grip n' rip.

Re: Power swing? anyone use it?

There is one situation where I have any kind of consistent success with a power swing. That comes with a power hitter at the plate and a correct guess of hanging curveball. If I get a curveball up and out over the plate with a power hitter and I know it's coming I find it very easy to crush the ball. However, hanging curveballs that I know are coming are fairly rare, so overall I would say I use power swing very little.
