RTTS ? for a pitcher
quick question. i started a RTTS made him a starting pitcher. which pitches do you guys find most effective as a strike out pitch? i have a 4 seam fastball, slider, changeup, and 12-6 curveball. i could get the count 0-2 and none of these pitches can strike the guy out very well. any suggestions thanksTags: None -
Re: RTTS ? for a pitcher
On 0-2, throw a 4 seamer high and tight. Like out of the strike zone high. If they didn't chase the 4 seamer, on 1-2 throw the slider down and away. Like out of the strike zone away (but start the pitch in the zone).quick question. i started a RTTS made him a starting pitcher. which pitches do you guys find most effective as a strike out pitch? i have a 4 seam fastball, slider, changeup, and 12-6 curveball. i could get the count 0-2 and none of these pitches can strike the guy out very well. any suggestions thanks
That's if your a RHP throwing to a righty or a LHP throwing to a lefty. -

Re: RTTS ? for a pitcher
0-2? Waste pitch, AKA set-up or purpose pitch.
This MLB.com article is interesting and may give you some insight, http://goo.gl/maJRk (had to use a url shortener since MLB doesn't link well here)Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Re: RTTS ? for a pitcher
That's why I AKA'd it the setup or purpose pitch. A strike out pitch depends on what you threw before it. Also depends on what skill level you're playing on but the A.I. isn't dumb in this game. You have to keep them off balance by changing speeds, high/low, inside/outside.
Best combo in the game is a fastball/change up. For me anyway.

Re: RTTS ? for a pitcher
My RTTS Pitcher carries a 4SFB, Cutter, Circle Change, Slider, and 12-6 Curve.
They are all maxed out at 99 right now but when I was pitching in the minors, my Slider away was the money pitch, for right handers, and the CC in the low outside corner for lefty's.
Since maxing out most of my pitches, though, a 99-101MPH 4SFB high or even inside has been locking them up good.
Since introducing the 12-6, it has been mediocre at best. If you started with the cruve, I am sure your catcher is calling for it a lot but I have learned that, even maxed to 99, guys can and will t off on it.
Edit: By the way, leaning on my Slider and CC, I finished first in the league in Strikeouts. Something to think about.Comment

Re: RTTS ? for a pitcher
thanks for the link. For a fastball changeup combo. how much should the speeds vary? for example my fastball is around 94 mph. where should i set the speed at for my changeup to be effective. its at 81 mph right now. but usually they just sit on it and get good hitsThat's why I AKA'd it the setup or purpose pitch. Re: RTTS ? for a pitcher
Fastball change difference should be around 10mph difference. 94 to 81 is fine though. I throw my changes out of the zone low, in the dirt, or the bottom of the zone. Don't ever leave a change middle or up. 12-6 curves in the dirt work too.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Re: RTTS ? for a pitcher
Honestly, I can pretty much use any of my repertoire for K's. RFB, Cutter, Forkball, Slurve, Knuckleball. I generally get most of my K's with the forkball...it not only gets a lot of swinging strikes, but it freezes up many hitters because of its fall off the table drop and it's knuckling back in action (jams righties, and when thrown in on lefties it will break back into the strike zone when located just outside the zone).
Speaking of knuckling...if you practice enough with a knuckle ball you may be able to get used to it and find its sweet spot and turn it into one of the hardest pitches to master...a knuckle-changeup. The pitch will come in slow and appears flat, but it will have a nasty break and not dance around like a typical standard knuckleball. In essence, you really make hitters look stupid if you throw 100mph gas and then throw a knee buckling 65mph floater with a serious break. LOL.
