Yeah, that worked for me last year. Like Nemesis said, the rumble happens too soon in a pitchers' windup this year.

Re: How does Classic pitching work?

I've been using Classic a lot more in RTTS, since my skill is better than my pitchers and they are over-performing their skill values. What I've been doing is holding down the button during the pitcher's motion and letting go as they start their "drive". It's really just a short hesitation, you could even say to yourself "one and let go" to time it. And then on occasion, I'll use the max effort to "reach back" when I'm looking for a strikeout. Your pitchers will tire out faster if you use max effort on every pitch.

I was pitching Ubaldo last night and having a terrible time hitting the strike zone and locating my pitches. I decided to just tap the button and suddenly he was locating his pitches with great regularity! Not only was I locating, but didn't give up a hit for 6 innings! Seems like when struggling with control you have to change his release point.

Ubaldo can be VERY wild at times; even last year when I used the Rockies in franchise, I'd have games with Jimenez where I couldn't find the strike zone. Eventually he'd settle down or work his way out of a jam. It is pretty realistic to how he pitches (I watch nearly every game), as he'll be sailing along and them bam: walk, walk, strikeout, walk, strikeout, groundout/flyout/strikeout (or this year it would be walk, walk, double, walk, strikeout, strikeout, groundout/flyout).

That is what I love about Classic pitching. With Analog (and meter) it's near-impossible to replicate that feeling of not having command of your pitches.
