Re: Hitting: Timing, Analog, or Zone?
Statistically or the realism of the interface itself?
Statistically, I don't know as I only use zone but I get realistic stats with it. But, zone is the most realistic interface.
Zone: you have to locate the pitch both horizontally and vertically while swinging with the right timing.
Analog: you have to only locate the horizontal location of the pitch and have proper swing timing.
Timing: you don't have to locate the pitch whatsoever and you only have to time you swing. It's as realistic as playing an old NES/SNES baseball game like RBI Baseball.Comment

Re: Hitting: Timing, Analog, or Zone?
I have jumped around with all 3.
For some reason, I enjoy Analog in RRTS, and Timing in Franchise, and I will mess around with Zone in Exhibition games. I get decent results, and they are the offer the most fun for me in those modes(which is most important to me).Comment

Re: Hitting: Timing, Analog, or Zone?
I keep going back and forth on this and with the analog zone hitting in MLB 12 that seems like it might be the way to go.
The only problem is that I strike out all the time and its often due to the fact that I'm late on pitches. I might be over thinking this but doesn't it seem like pressing a button to hit would be quicker (just barely, but it would help) than pushing up on the analog stick when its in the down position? Also, you don't have to worry about your stride with zone hitting.Comment

I certainly feel this has been the case in 11. Personally, not due to the fact that you need to stride with Pure Analog though.I keep going back and forth on this and with the analog zone hitting in MLB 12 that seems like it might be the way to go.

Re: Hitting: Timing, Analog, or Zone?
Analog for sure for me. I still play a lot of hardball in real life and the way they implimented the stride timing needed plus pitch recognition is phenominal in The Show 11. Very rewarding and interactive system.Comment

Re: Hitting: Timing, Analog, or Zone?
Statistically, it's Timing as long as your own timing is good enough. That's because the PCI (your aim, in other words) is entirely stats-driven in Timing mode. It's the mode with the least amount of human interaction and therefore closest to how the AI itself hits.
But that's not to say that the other modes can't be realistic - it's all about finding the right difficulty and sliders that work for you. The other modes can certainly be more rewarding than timing since you have to work a lot harder to use them well.Comment

Re: Hitting: Timing, Analog, or Zone?
After a few games last night I feel like I'm going to have to stick with zone. I just really have a hard time hitting with the analog batting. With zone I can simply worry about pressing a button and placing the PCI in the correct location. I don't have to mess with striding.Comment

I love Zone with Timing... IMO best option and delivers the most realistic results!Milwaukee Brewers | Green Bay Packers | North Carolina Tar Heels | Wisconsin BadgersComment

Re: Hitting: Timing, Analog, or Zone?
Zone with timing? Not sure what that is. Is it analog? I like the analog hitting but I hate the fact that you have no control over where your swing goes (in regards to high or low). Many times I've had perfect timing on a pitch (a strike) low in the zone and I swing over it. There's simply nothing that can be done about that since we can't lower the PCI in pure analog hitting. That was my only complaint about it. Zone analog in MLB 12 seems like it will fix this but I'm afraid that it might be too complex for me to be successful with that mode.Comment

Re: Hitting: Timing, Analog, or Zone?
RTTS: Zone
Franchise: Timing.
Mainly due to in franchise when I control the players I do what I can to make their rating matter the most.Joshua:

Re: Hitting: Timing, Analog, or Zone?
I started a thread last year on this very question about when and why to use the various options for hitting in MLB The Show
The link isn't worknig for me for some reason, but just search for the "Holy Trinity of Hitting Options"Last edited by jmik58; 02-17-2012, 11:01 AM.Comment

Pure analog. The closer you can get to replicating the mechanics of a baseball swing, the better.May 6, 1998: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 20 K
Thanks to all that helped with the Baltimore Orioles roster, and to N51_rob for making me an OS premium member.
