Key word: Expects. Meaning, it's not official yet.

If I'm not mistaken they probably froze the code shortly after the Community Day guys left, so it's just not possible to get in for the launch even if MLB grants them permission to put it between now and then. And I doubt it's something that can be patched in either.

Frankly (and yes, this should probably go in the Pro Baseball thread), I'm shocked that it's taking MLB this long to figure out if they're going with it or not. An extra wild-card team per league is something that could have affected an organization that thinks they're close to contending in the free agent market - trying to get a top-flight player to help push them into that last new spot instead of standing pat.

I was watching MLB Network and a number of people on there and on other sites have said that it will be much easier to implement a ten team playoff in 2013 when Houston moves to the American League. There just isn't enough time for another series between October 3rd and the start of the World Series (which I believe starts on October 25th; I'm not sure).

How does this scream East Coast Love???

Do East Coast teams get an automatic tiebreaker over west coast teams if it comes down to it?

No way this can be in 12. It's not even official yet and the game comes out on March 6th. It will be in 13 though that's for sure.

Was just wondering this today, because I read a quote from MLB (can't recall if it was Selig) saying they hope to decide one way or another by March 1 on expanding the playoffs. Obviously, that sinks any hope of seeing it implemented and doubt it could be patched in, either.

I tell you what: you go write all the code for it, make sure it works properly with every single bit of information in Franchise mode, Road to the Show, and with the entire game, make sure there are no freezes in 2032 in Franchise, and I'm sure the guys at Sony will let you release it.

Aren't we in the era of the video game patch? I wouldn't see why this couldn't be implemented via patch.

I think it's better to wait a year and make sure it's done right. Trying to rush it into the game without time to make sure it can work with tiebreakers and the rest of the playoffs could lead to big problems. Patches are usually done to fix bugs, not add major features like this.

We won't need to worry about expanded playoffs in 2012 anyway, MLB won't do it this year.

If that was his career and he got paid to do things like that, I bet he could.

A fireman doesn't tell a kid, "You know what, YOU go in to that burning house and save your dog if he really means that much to you. I've done my part here".

Yes, I realize those situations are immensely different, but you get my point.
