Instead of short-cutting this problem and severely reducing wild pitches/passed balls in 12, I hope the issue was corrected properly; CPU AI. Forgot how much I missed this piece of strategy.

Just popped in 11 pre-patch and...!!!
Wow, I forgot all about passed balls & wild pitches! There is a ton of them in MLB 11 The Show before any updates. I remember they patched it, not because of the high amount of passed balls and wild pitches, rather, the lack of CPU pitcher's AI on when to throw balls in the dirt. They would throw anything and everything in all situations; even with a runner on 3B. The user, on the other hand, lost the ability to throw breaking pitches in the dirt, during certain situations.

Re: Just popped in 11 pre-patch and...!!!
I thought they patched so that the catchers handles the pitches in the dirt more cleanly, whereas pre-patch the pitch often deflected off catcher enough that it became an almost guaranteed extra base for the runner(r) on base. -
Re: Just popped in 11 pre-patch and...!!!
Pre-patch, there was 3-6 balls that got by per game; maybe more. Post patch, less than 1 per game. Whatever reason that was given, making catchers better or whatever, put it back to how it was!Originally posted by banned memberMy [RTTS] goals are to improve my bunting and drag bunting. Re: Just popped in 11 pre-patch and...!!!
I think the consensus (at least among those who kept stats) was that it was too much pre-patch. Then it was fixed with the patch, but maybe was over-corrected. Personally in 12 I want to see something in between... pre- and post-patches.Comment

The catcher would always stand up and take a step forward which led him to kicking the ball

That's 1 reason why I've been playing 10 lately. The lack of WP and PB on 11 was bothering me. At least in 10 there are some.Comment

I had the CPU throw a wild pitch on me yesterday...patched and well."When it's all set and done, reality is the best innovation."Comment

the game was far better pre-patch, including having the CAP trick to get the digital face. It's why I never got the patchWow, I forgot all about passed balls & wild pitches! Re: Just popped in 11 pre-patch and...!!!
It was definitely too much pre-patch. Especially if you were facing a CPU pitcher with a big curve. I didn't keep close track of passed balls and wild pitches post-patch, but I would say they got it pretty close.
The biggest problem I had with this issue post-patch was the return of the ball four error. But IMO, the excessive passed balls did much more to hurt realism than the ball four errors. So I was more or less happy with this aspect of the game after the patch. Now, more than everComment

Re: Just popped in 11 pre-patch and...!!!
Yeah, I went back and played MLB 10 last week and had forgotten just how many passed balls/wild pitches there were in that game ... especially by the CPU. MLB 11 may have over-corrected the issue, but I'd rather have it that way than MLB 10, where you'd see multiple passed balls every game.It was definitely too much pre-patch. Re: Just popped in 11 pre-patch and...!!!
In 11, I agree with post-patch being better because pre-patch was just way too much, but I do miss being alert and trying to advance on a wild pitch.
Also, as a pitcher, there's a strategy element in whether you can bounce a pitch like curveball or not with a runner on 3B... Is the catcher good enough to block one in the dirt? Do I have good enough command to throw one low but not in the dirt without fear of hanging it? Or should I stay away from CB entirely, even though that's my best breaking pitch? That creates a tense moment!!
That element is pretty much gone from 11 post patch. I hope I see some of those back in 12...Comment

We'll just see once the game gets released... it's something you won't find out no matter how many times you stare at the videos that have come out in public. :PComment
