    outright assignment waivers

Franchise, Oakland. I didn't like Beane's "wisdom" in getting rid of Andrew Bailey, among others, so used the force trade to undo 2-3 things.

All is fine with Gio and Breslow, but for some reason the roster shows Bailey in AAA and with a W by his name. It says I cannot move him because he is on outright assignment waivers.

Though I've loved baseball all my life, I don't know much about these type of things, waivers, options and what not. What does this mean, any guesses as to why it happened to Bailey?

Anything I can do to undo that. My guess is it means some other team may claim him? If so, I don't know how he got on waivers, but I guess I will just force trade again? What can I do to prevent this from happening again, if I do lose him and trade him back?

I appreciate any education, its a part of BB I don't pay much attention to.

Outright waivers means he is being sent to the minors, and since he is out of options he could get picked up by another team. If you're controlling Oakland, all you would have to do is make sure you're manually handling roster moves and keep him in the majors.

Thanks for the reply. But I cannot get him into the MLB. he is in AAA.

What I find, even when I make a spot on 40 man roster for him, and try to move him to it, it says that he is on Outright assignement waiver and cannot be moved between rosters now. Has a big W by his name.

Is there anything I can do about this. Still not sure I get it, or why it happened. I may just need to restart the Franchise. Only played 3 games or so, but prefer not too, if possible. Thanks. I appreciate the info.

Did you force trade the Red Sox a player not on the 40 man roster (i.e. a poorly rated AA or AAA prospect)? I am betting that if this is what you did, that your 40 man roster was full when you made the trade. The computer then had to remove Bailey from Red Sox's 40 man roster to accommodate him on your team. Since he is out of options, a demotion off of the 40 man roster forces that player to go through outright waivers.

You can keep playing and hope he clears waivers. If he does, you'll be able to add him to the 40 man roster. Until then, he stays in AAA.

I suspect that is exactly what I did. I paid no attention to those details, just got rid of somebody. I guess I have learned something. How long will he be on waivers? If necc, guess I will force trade him again, but with a little more smarts about it this time. Thanks for the enlightenment. The Show has taught me more and more about the 'biz' etc of BB.

He'll be on waivers for 10 days before he can be cleared and assigned to the minors. If he clears those 10 days, you'll then be able to bring him back up to the Majors.

Ok good to hear its not too long. We learn something everyday!

Thanks to all who helped enlighten me with this.

I blew it, but at least it was educational.
