    Franchise Mode Still Broken: Contracts

Why do <24 players with less than two seasons of MLB service time (ie: Strasburg, Feliz, Bumgarner, etc) hit unrestricted free agency in December of the FIRST off-season? Where is the realism in that? I offered contracts to those three for monster dollars and they didn't reject or accept it, instead just suddenly became free agents for any team to bid on without compensation! WTF? What kind of game allows that to happen? It's been this ways for YEARS, and they still haven't fixed it. It's literally mode-breaking cluster-F. If I'm not mistaken, players that haven't served a certain amount of games/seasons as an MLB player and thus aren't eligible for arbitration are AUTOMATICALLY re-signed to a similar amount to league min. on a year-by-year basis. Is that so frigging difficult for SCEA to put in the bloody game?

Re: Franchise Mode Still Broken: Contracts

You have to offer them some contract. If they do not accept then you can renew them at the end of Feb. System is working right.

You have until Dec. To offer a contract or they become a free agent.

Yeah if it says "contract renewable" you MUST tender them something. It sounds like you're not doing that...

but you claim you are. It works fine for me though. After Feb 15, you can renew them by clicking on their contract.

In short offer before the deadline (dec. 2) and if they don't accept you can renew them between feb 15- and spring

That's the thing, I 100% offered them contracts. I offered them huge deals. For instance, Strasburg was offered a 7 yr deal @ 14m/season. And then as soon as that date in December comes they get released to the free agent pool.

                I just tried.
                Just controlling the Mets.
Every contract renewable/arbitration eligible guy signed and was on my team for 2013.

Funny...I didn't do anything to some players and only signed 16 guys to test....forgetting to look at the others....the Mets are laden with 1/1 deals and I only had 16 players on my club to start the season.
Be careful to check that you guys have enough players signed in the off season.

You guys with the problem....are you sure you don't have something set to AUTO....contracts maybe?....double check.

It's on manual, as is everything.

And Tabarnes, yeah, it's been since '09 for me. I'm going to try again, just to make sure I'm not crazy and doing something wrong. But I know that on day 1 of the off-season I submitted offers to every single one of my free agents-to-be, as painstakingly long as that took because 95% of the team had 1/1's. I'm the Jays, btw.

Since 09 you say? Didn't they add Arbitration that year? I believe certain players, and possibly Stras fits under that at the end of 12, need to be offered Arbitration before the December deadline because guys who are 3-6 years of service, you are required to offer them Arbitration (even if you offer them a contract) or else they become free agents.

                      Forza;

Are you using 30 team control?
I ask because you mentioned Strasburg.
Maybe you are not assigning the profiles correctly to the other teams?
Maybe you don't have the right default profile assigned(USER SETTINGS)?
I'm just thinking off the top of my head.

It's not the arbitration eligible players, I can retain them, it's the contract renewable players, which is what Stras is for me. I don't get the option to offer him arbitration. It's the same deal with Bumgarner, who's only 22, and Feliz.

And Knight, I only control the Jays.

I'm going to make certain that I'm doing everything according to spec, double check I'm not missing anything at all, just to be sure. It seems like no one else is having the problem, so I'll look into it more

EDIT: I found a thread from 2010 that brought this up, and the consensus seemed to be that these players with less than 3 years MLB service are renewed automatically for the minimum. It's mentioned that these players CAN'T be signed by anyone else unless outright released, which I know for sure didn't happen. But I witnessed all three of my young aces get scooped after Dec. 2.

Okay...so you moved Strasburg to the Jays on a roster or did you trade for him?...
                          He should be contract renewable.

I traded for him, was able to get Wieters and Markakis outta Baltimore, and parlayed them into Stras + a couple B-potential prospects.

There may be a bug with this....but it's not on the contract renewable side of things.
I think...when you make a contract renewable player an offer(instead of renewing)....even a monster deal will sometimes get ignored by him. At some date(late in the off season)...you have to go back to the manage contracts screen and the option to renew his contract is available.
I think what's happening is...it's not "seeing" you regular contract offer(5 yrs/50 million) and is instead looking for a renewable offer.
Just a prelim finding....as it doesn't always happen. Strasburg actually accepted my offer(2 yrs. 30 million)...it was Arencebia who ignored it...and on the last day of February...I was able to renew him.
Other teams.....the CPU controlled ones are signing and renewing as they should it seems....so it's just your team if you have contracts on manual.

                              tabarnes....test a little?
I will to before it goes into the bug thread...just to make sure.

                              Thanks.
