What is your strategy for getting walks?

This could go for any game mode, but i'm looking to at least get over 100 walks in a season in RTTS. I cannot pick up the ball very well coming out of the pitchers hands. By the time i realize the pitch is bad or good its usually too late.

Any advice? Does the pitch speed slider help this at all?

Re: What is your strategy for getting walks?

The pitch speed slider will help a bit, but a couple years back I think it was 09. There was a huge hitting thread and the best advice I got from it was to turn guessing off, and during the windup to lock in on the pitchers hat instead of following his hand. This way your much closer to the release point without having to keep moving your eyes and losing the ball easier.

Another thing, and this might be the hardest for pretty much everyone. But don't be afraid to strike out looking, it happens I know most everyone says to them selves at the plate i'm not going down looking but sometimes it might actually help you more than you would think. Just cause your protecting doesn't mean don't take close pitches. Also if you get to 3-0 just put your controller down, I never never swing on 3-0 ever. Sometimes not even on 3-1 cause for the most part the pitcher will throw one over, then go back out of the zone because he's pretty sure your not swinging 3-0 but probably are 3-1.

I also understand that AA and AAA pitchers are less likely to go outside of the strike zone more often than MLB pitchers.

Yeah thats defintely true, also what difficulty are you playing on?
You'll be hard pressed to draw them on anything lower than all-star, they just pound the zone.

I play on veteran until i can get my players attribute's up a bit. Then i'll make the switch to all-star.

My problem is the big yellow mess that is in the strike zone. I use Pure Analog and don't understand why it still exists on my screen.

Turn the PCI off and the yellow spot thing will go away.

Unless it is belt high, right down the middle of the plate, don't swing at the first pitch.

If you swing at a bad pitch, with less than 2 strikes, take the next 2 pitches. it's almost a lock that one of them will be a ball and get you to an even count.

And 3, don't be afraid to strikeout looking.

Hey getcarter, nice to see someone else with my don't be afraid to k looking stance.

But with that said I never swing at the first pitch, just found from experience it tends to lead to bad situations.

I seem to have much more plate discipline when I play Franchise, but in RTTS I often swing at the first pitch and it screws me more often than not. In Franchise I normally focus on an area and a pitch, let's say Fastball up and away, if it's spot on I use a power swing and hope to catch lightning in a bottle. If it's not that I take the pitch, if it's a ball I try my method again, if it was a strike I am less selective but won't swing at just *anything*. Three ball counts I do the fastball+location, if it's right I will consider swinging as long as it's FAT in the zone, but if not I obviously take the pitch.

Yeah everyone just gets so personally involved in RTTS you know? I mean you get about 4AB a game and you wanna do something, however its much easier to just know your role on the chise.

I'm by no means a superhuman hitter or close to some people on this forum.
But I'm not bad and get a decent amount of hits...and acually broke the 56 game hit streak in my Rtts career last year.

My advice would be much the same as the rest of the guys in this thread.

                              1. Never swing on a first pitch (it's just not worth it, and I always end up going into a slump when I start doing this)
                              2. I only start swinging at pitches after I have one strike against me, but don't start swinging at everything though
                              3. Be patient...it's difficult but it's probably the most important thing...the more patient you are the better you will hit
                              4. Don't be afraid to get striked out looking (as mentioned)

If you still struggle, maybe go into practice mode and just watch the pitcher pitch. Don't swing at anything, just look at the different pitches and try to judge them whether they will be in the zone or not.

When I watch any gameplay videos from the camera behind the batter, I can't help myself judging whether I would've swung or not.
