I can't get through 7th 8th or 9th?

I've played probably 60-70 games since release. I've probably won 25 of those. But i've lead before the 7th in probably 50.

Why is it, whenever I get to the 7th or 8th innings, my pitchers hit a wall(doesn't matter if energy his full or low, or confidence is high or low) and I lose the lead. It just feels like everything hits a hole or I'll make errors I can't control (pop ups to the infield dropped)

Any tips?

I could have sworn there was this place where we keep, what is it, relief pitchers? Yea, relief pitchers! Just for situations like this! You should try one or a few.

It is late, though, because from re-reading it one more time, you mentioned full energy which no starter would have. Sounds like just bad luck or personal fatigue from playing the game that period of time.

Yea. What prompted this thread was a game I just played

Garza had 4 hits into the 7th, given up 1 run. Anything I threw was getting hit. So I brought in Samardzija. Couldn't get a strike past a single hitter. Went from being up 3-1 to losing the game 3-7.. super frustrating.

i have the same problems...my relievers are just terrible...all of sudden pitches aren't called, can't through a strike. It's frustrating

I find that I pitch better late in games. I usually don't find my stride till after the 3rd or 4th inning and then from there on it's usually pretty smooth. Except for that 1 time that I blundered a hanging slider and it got hit as far as the eye could see and it ended up losing me the game.

Im the same. I seem to give up most of my runs in the 1st 2nd and 3rd.

I feel like I allow 80% of my total runs allowed in the 2nd and 8th innings. The 2nd has just been terrible for me every game since the start for no conceivable reason, while the 8th always sucks in close games.

I've never had a situation where I had a 1 or 2 run lead, brought someone in to pitch the 8th, and had them not give up a run. I had a 1 run lead and my pitcher gave up 2, partially because the defense sucks in this game. Then I came back to take the lead with 2 more scored with 2 out in the 9th. My closer came in, Bautista missed his second routine fly ball in two innings and the umpire made a ridiculous call giving someone a walk to load the bases despite how they swung with 2 strikes and the pitch was in the strike zone anyway. Just barely got out of that crap.

I find that it helps to not pitch with any type of routine, or predictability.

How many of those rallys that are started by the CPU on you in the 6th, 7th and 8th are started from a first-pitch fastball down and away?

How many times in the game did you start a batter with a fastball?

Count how many times you start the hitters with that 4-seamer on the black.

You will start to see a pattern.

I am playing with Legend Pitching, Analog, Sliders for accuracy and consistency pegged at 0.

When you warm up, throw the curveball and changeups and offspeed stuff during your 8 warm up pitches on the mound (You are doing that yes?)

Make sure the confidence level is high for your offspeed stuff, and start the batter off with a gnarly hook or a slider instead of showing him the 97mph fastball.

You can throw a fastball over with less confidence on the meter than trying to dot the i with a curveball and not much confidence in your pitch.

MIX UP THE PITCHES YOU START THE BATTERS OFF WITH.

You will pay dearly if you don't.

Couldn't agree more. You need to be less predictable. There have been times where I've thrown 3 straight off-speed pitches (same type) just to confuse the batter.

You can keep the same type of out pitch (not all the time, obviously). Just be wary of the situation.

-Use your full Bull pen. Get favorable match-ups (lefty vs lefty, righty vs righty)

-Make defensive subs. If you have the lead, put in a better glove than bat in the infield. Put in the faster outfielder who can get to balls in the gap

-Mix up pitches, throw a few more balls to start out an AB if you feel they are jumping on first pitch strikes. Usually when a reliever comes in he is trying to throw strikes and get out of there, so teams are keying more on first pitch stirkes.

-Sounds like you are using the Cubs so, lastly is this really a surprise to you that your pen is blowing leads?

I have the same problems, all of my starters have ERA's of less that 3, and all of my relievers are in the 6 to 10 range of ERA's.

was one of my issues as well.
I use the yankees tho so its a bit more tolerable as the attributes override my incompetence.


I need to start using those warm up pitchers and get into the flow of the new pitchers motion.
My rhythm [or lack thereof] in those later innings i think is what does me in.

The show has always been awful about rubber banding for me. If I score 2 runs in the top of the 3rd, the computer will score at least 2 in the bottom of the 3rd. If I score 5 in the bottom of the 8th, the computer will score at least 5 in the top of the 9th. I hate it, but I'm just used to it now and assume it's going to happen every time I score.

how do we stop the umpires from not making bad calls in late innings? i counted 6 bad calls in 2 innings(8th and 9th) last night that all went their way. 3 of them resulted in walks instead of strikeouts.

I might just turn off the variable umpiring, seems to never go my way.
