I have been trying to be patient and take more pitches. When I,m in an unfavorable count I can't seem to foul off many pitches. It seems I either swing and miss or hit a grounder to third or short. I'm wondering if there is some trick to fouling off pitches instead of costing me a weak ground out. Any suggestions?

Any tips to get the opposing pitchers pitch count up?
Hi,

I'd take until I get a first strike. Then, just be as defensive as you can; look for anything off the plate.Mariners - Cubs: 2012 World Series

Do not allow pride to get in the way... turn down the pitch speed. We are not trained professionals who have seen tens of thousands of real life pitches.
Slower pitch speed will help with picking up the pitch and location. Do not be afraid to strike out looking a couple times until you start seeing the ball better.
In terms of fouling off pitches, I use contact swing when in poor counts and force the CPU to throw me a fastball.Comment

If you use guess pitch, then guess one area you either have trouble locating pitches at, or an area you want to hit, and if you're wrong, choose a 2nd location you want to swing at, if the ball isn't in that 2nd location either, then just dont swing.
Biggest thing is not swinging at strikes if you know you'll prob either miss,or get a real bad hit(unless its 2 strikes).
For the most part, wait on the 1st pitch. If you're not getting too many fouls, then increase foul frequency for the user. You should be averaging around 20% foul balls(meaning if 100 pitches were thrown, around 20 should be fouls)Comment

It's a lot easier (and safer) to swing late, than it is to swing early. Just wait really long on every pitch, and all the late swings should end up as intentional fouls.
Also take pitches and all that other stuff.Comment

lower cpu strike frequency to 2. this is the only thing that helped me.Comment

make sure you use "normal swing" x button, or "contact swing" o button, only guess pitch on a 3-0, 3-1, and 3-2 count, guess fastball, if you get it try a "power swing" square button, but only do that a couple times a gameComment

I like Animal Man's suggestion. When I first put this year's game in I swung at everything cause it's faster than 11 and the ball moves differently. I moved pitch speed down to zero and got used to seeing pitches. I worked back up to the standard speed with a better vision of the strike zone.Comment

Pitch speed on zero will help you to read pitches, once you learn that, you can moved speed up 1 click at a time. Also putting the controller down and watch some pitches, also take some Full Count pitches. If you play on veteran or all star the pitchers will throw more pitches that come close or over the plate but will break outside of the strike zone. TheFud Monster is RIGHT>Comment

I think I will move up to veteran or all star the issue is a ton of strikes thrown which force me to swing and send fly outs to center field. So my feeling is that I need it to be more to real life in that it throws more balls which require judgement on my end. Thanks for the suggestions. I may also adjust the slider to make the CPU throw less strikes. As for pitch speed I play on very lowmim 48 years old and my reaction time is a bit on the slower side. It's rough getting old.Comment
