Need Help with Pitching with MLB the Show

I just purchased the video game and a PS3 on Sunday and been playing all week and needing to learn how to pitch. I have always played the other game and used classic pinpoint pitching. It says if you use classic it will be like meter, but if you are not good at meter it is better than using meter. I like to aim and throw. In the other game if you hold the button down it will allow you to be more pinpoint and the pitch is more effective, but on this if you hold it down you throw harder but the the pinpoint sucks. The one difference I see are the arrows. I line up the arrows and throw and it is nowhere near where the arrows were pointing or the ball was when I started the pitch. So if anyone can help me pitch and let me know what the arrows mean, how I should aim, tap or hold the button, etc...

Also I cheated and made my pitcher all 99 on all pitches and made the sliders where you could not throw balls and even 0 the BB/9 and still threw balls.

    Thanks in adavance

Not sure I can help with everything. I always use meter, it's just what I'm used to....

But as far as the arrows. They represent the movement of the pitch. So if you're throwing a cutter for example, and there are small arrows to the right, the pitch should break right a little.
If you are hitting your locations, the pitch is actually going to wind up closer to where the arrow is leading then the actual ball marker (if that makes sense).

It takes some getting used to, for me that was especially so with the slider and curveballs.....and it can be different for each pitcher and can change depending on control/cofidence.
So you really just have to practice/experiment, and sometimes even alter things mid game to match what you may be seeing, or in relation to pitch confidence.

That does help a little bit. I am not sure about the arrows as it never seems to go where the arrows are pointed. Should I hold the X button or tap?

Re: Need Help with Pitching with MLB the Show

I went to this thread and no help. Sooooooooo

Help anyone? I am looking to find out do I aim the ball or the arrows when I am pitching? It feels like it doesn't matter what I line up as it never goes anywhere close. I made all my pitchers 99 and on easy mode, sliders are set to high and still it goes everywhere but where I point. I use a tap, full throttle, 1/2, 1/3/, 1/4, 3.144444444/4 of the power and still the ball travels. Also like others say it is in the strike zone and called a ball. I thought 2k was lazy and didn't change enough so I bought a PS3 on CL for $135 (120g so I got a great deal) and the game new and $200 down I am not to happy with my purchase. The videos on YouTube is so much better than playing this game.

do you have the option ON, where the catcher calls the pitch for you? so if your a right handed pitcher and the catcher calls for a slider, and the little catchers glove is showing up on your screen on the bottom left corner (of a right handed batter, so if you pick slider, aim the ball untill the last little arrow is in the little catchers glove, then throw the pitch correctly, it should go where it was told to go

Re: Need Help with Pitching with MLB the Show

Classic feels a little different to me this year...

Been playing the series with Classic since '07, so I have a lot of total games in...

                Things I believe:

                1) CPU Batter AI is smarter than ever this year...in game, the pitching settings describe "veteran" as having a slightly more forgiving ability to determine where or what you're throwing...esp. during the dreaded (for me, anyway) "third time through the lineup", which has ALWAYS been tough in this game...

                2) The control and consistency has been re tuned to accommodate "pulse pitching" and the fact that it kind of makes classic easier, due to user control...

                3) Most rosters have pitchers rated at "D" control...so most pitchers ratings are already going to bring control issues to the fore...

                So:

Dropping to Vet (or even Rookie) doesn't make it much easier...it just reduces the "smarts" of the CPU hitters...don't be afraid to try those levels...I used to pitch on AS, and now I'm on ROOKIE...

Don't be afraid to jack your user control / consistency sliders up...go into a pitching location drill with a "C" pitcher and back out and re tune until you're seeing him throw within about a one foot by one foot "box" the majority of the time...that's about as tight a control / consistency that a MLB level "C" control guy should reach...

Look into Scott's roster with MBMav's pitch edits...they pull that "back ended" bell curve back up a bit, so "C" is the new "D"...

                Check post #140:

                http://www.operationsports.com/forum...culator-5.html

Classic is VERY rewarding when you get it to work well...the rest is just going into practice mode and learning how each pitch works...with EACH pitcher...they all have VERY different skill sets, so learning to throw anything but a 4 seam is going to vary from pitcher to pitcher...

Lastly, I am in late May of an restarted A's franchise and although I've played a couple dozen great games...I've yet to win ANY of them...my (new to 2012) pitching problems have "sunk me battleship" each time...

I'm okay with it, because I just keep tweaking and playing...I like a steep curve...bears up to the fact that I'm shooting for a four year franchise with about 30-35 starts (I pick one starter, learn him, pitch his starts only and sim the rest) per year...so, by the end of year one, I'll bet that the things I stink at now won't be an issue in year two and by year three, I'll be crushing the CPU...

                Hope this helps!

                Good luck!
