Has anyone else experienced this sort of eternal cold streak with a hitter whose ratings are much better than his results? Any suggestions on how to cure his case of the yips?

Howie Kendrick's unbeatable cold streak
I've played the first two months of a franchise with the Angels three times now (started over for the OSFM rosters and then again for the patch) and in every single instance, Howie Kendrick has been hitting .170-.190 come the end of May. As a team I hit around .270, so he is significantly underperforming. I rest him when he gets to about 50% energy, or when I play the Rangers or the Yankees, but it seems like no matter what I do I just can't hit with him.

I'm having a similar problem with Michael Bourn. I'm actually having this problem with all my high contact low power guys. I'm having trouble getting the ball out of the infield with them and when I do it is weakly popped up for the outfielder to make an easy grab. I'm being patient at the plate too, Bourn and Prado are both hitting under .200 but have OBP's of over .300 nearing the end of April.I've played the first two months of a franchise with the Angels three times now (started over for the OSFM rosters and then again for the patch) and in every single instance, Howie Kendrick has been hitting .170-.190 come the end of May. I'm having the same problem with him, I kept him as my no. 2 batter because of his contact rating.I've played the first two months of a franchise with the Angels three times now (started over for the OSFM rosters and then again for the patch) and in every single instance, Howie Kendrick has been hitting .170-.190 come the end of May. Not at all. The only guy not consistent is Bourjos. However I have hit a homer with him.Comment

Re: Howie Kendrick's unbeatable cold streak
Thats pretty funny. In my O's franchise I just finished the April series with the Angels and Kendrick has a 14 game hitting streak. Along those lines Ryan Flaherty was hitting .095 for me having played 6 games in the place of an injured JJ Hardy.Moderator

Re: Howie Kendrick's unbeatable cold streak
Although in the last ten games of April LoMo hit a meager .211 with 1 HR for me he ended April at:
.313 7 HR 21 RBI's
He carried this team offensively. As a team I am only hitting .256 right now. My Staff though is number one in the league in ERA and walks allowed. Killing me!! The bats are killing me right now.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Howie Kendrick's unbeatable cold streak
Until recently, I've struggled with Starlin Castro during April and May. He's picked it up in the month of June, bringing his average up to .220. I hope to get him over .300 by the end of the year.Chicago Cubs - Chicago Bears - Milwaukee Bucks

Re: Howie Kendrick's unbeatable cold streak
I was having similar problems with Bourn. I'm in late May now, but through April and into the first week of May I was hitting below .220 with him. The pitches I did make good contact on turned into semi-long flyouts. I don't know what changed but, starting in the second week of May, I went on a tear with him. I had back-to-back 3/4 and 4/5 games and put together a streak of five or six multi-hit games. His averaged skyrocketed to .310-ish by the final week of May. I've only got one or two games in the month remaining and he's back to hitting weak shallow pop-ups and weak grounders to SS and 2B. I think his average is back down in the .270-.280 range.I'm having a similar problem with Michael Bourn. I'm actually having this problem with all my high contact low power guys. I think there may be a little something to the whole players with high contact but low power ratings being really tough to hit with. It seems like hardly any of those inbetween weak line drives that normally land in front of the left or right fielder always get run down and caught for an out. With someone like Bourn it's a seeing-eye single through the infield more times than not when he's fortunate to get a base-hit.Comment

Re: Howie Kendrick's unbeatable cold streak
Jose Reyes has been downright dreadful in April for me.
.176 1 HR 2 RBI 7 SB
He can't buy a hit. And he has hit the ball hard every game too. He is just finding gloves right now. His lone HR was an inside the park rip into the LC gap where the CF dove and missed and it rolled to the wall.
He has drawn some walks and stole some bases, but he is in a frigid cold streak so far along with Mike Stanton. Those two are really killing me right now. Stanton has been the opposite of Reyes. Weak contact, K's galore and a lousy plate discipline rating (really hard to check swing with this guy) has hurt him.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 04-23-2012, 06:19 AM.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Howie Kendrick's unbeatable cold streak
There are (at least) two possibilities:
1. Maybe there is something about Kendrick's stance that is throwing off your timing. Check your swing analysis to see if you are noticeably later or earlier when hitting with Kendrick.
2. The combination of Kendrick's contact, power, and your timing may be leading you to make solid enough contact on a lot of bad pitches to put the ball in play for an easy out. Try being even more selective on pitches with Kendrick or adjust his ratings until you get realistic numbers.Comment

Re: Howie Kendrick's unbeatable cold streak
Yeah, I can't hit for my life with Mark Teixeira. It's almost to the point where I want to start my Franchise over again because I just can't hit with him and his average is just so bad and I'm not getting any HR's or RBI's with him.
But I've hit like 3 grand slams with Brett Gardner......
