How to release a player?

This may sound dumb..

I want to make sure a few players are released on my team BEFORE I start my franchise. The Release Player button is there once in a Franchise but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to just drop a single player outside of Franchise in Roster Control.

Anyone else have tips?

You can't. You have to swap them with a free agent.

You cannot as BB said.
You must have 90 players per team to start a franchise. This insures that it will be that way.
