Game stuttering during gameplay..is this a common problem?

First, forgive me if this has been addressed. I did a search and saw nothing other than some stuff for MLB 11.

I just got the Show 12 today and am playing a head to head game offline. The game has these little hiccup stutters about every 20-30 seconds. They are just brief pauses that last a second at the most. It is nothing more than an annoyance in most instances, though it is definitely noticeable. The big problem is when it happens as a pitch is coming to the plate or when you are winding up with the meter(we use the meter for head to head play). I never had this problem with 09 or 10. The only difference I can possibly see is that I did the large install of the extra data. Does the 10GB install possibly cause these hiccups as the game tries to read something from the HDD? I thought the install would improve performance. Is this a common issue? Thinking about uninstalling the extra date if the problem persists.

*update* I got my PS3 back today, w/ new BR laser installed, & still seeing stuttering in night games. The people that are NOT seeing any stuttering...which GB did you install the 5 or 10GB thanks

I did the 10GB install, but just deleted that and am going to try again to see if it helps.

And interestingly enough my game was a day game..and reading your report it only happened to you on night games. We're going to start a new game here soon now that I've deleted the extra 10GB install. I will report back if that solves the problem. I hope so, because it really creeps its ugly head at inopportune times it seems. With a runner at 3rd late in a one run game a stutter came up that really screwed my opponent. I have no stuttering in any of my games at all. I did the 5gb install. The reason I did is because I read that the time you save with the bigger install was minimal. I don't remember what the load times where, but I know that it was not enough to make me want to do the 10gb install. I mean we are talking about a few seconds, and I know that 1 loading screen was slower with the 10gb install.

I got studdering and it was due to my hard drive failing. I found this out by popping MLB 11 back in and got the same thing then tried a game that don't read off the hard drive and worked fine. It slowly got worse for me. Once in a great while during a game to full blown would freeze at some point in the game. I just replaced my hard drive yesterday with one from a busted up fat PS3 I still had and works great.

Thats just a suggestion to try. I couldn't figure my problem out at 1st. Took a couple days to understand what was going on once it finally crapped out on me. Not installing the bigger update at the beginning might not make the issue so bad. I had the bigger install.

Thanks Nomo. Will give that a try in a bit as removing the extra 5GB install didn't solve the stuttering problem.

Just for kicks I ran a couple other games last night: Rayman Origins and Little Big Planet 2. Neither of those games suffered from any stuttering problem, so it is just the Show thus far. I'll do the database rebuild and see if that takes care of the issue.

Damn... looks like I might have to get a new hard drive then (at least laptop harddisks are cheap now).

My gameplay started stuttering too, but then I fixed it twice over the period of several months by doing the rebuild database thing, but then it just started stuttering again and can't be fixed anymore. The game did freeze twice on me too already; guess I better prepare myself for the eventual.

I have 10 gb data installed & it rarely stutters. Although, when it does, it's right before the opposing pitcher throws the ball. So a juicy pitch down the middle turns into a nice whiff.

Same here. It's very rare, but when it does happen it seems to always happen as the pitcher releases the ball when I'm batting. So infuriating when it happens on a meatball.

The same thing happened to me. It is an annoyance that has led me to striking out or swinging ahead of pitches that I would have crushed. I hope they fix all the issues soon, as I am unwilling to play the game much longer and will move to other games. It is unfortunate because I like baseball but will all the issues I don't know if I am unwilling to put much more time into the base ball game anymore.

been around for awhile, been playing since 09 and have had this happen on all of them. The database rebuild never did a thing, and it's been across 4 PS3's (3 refurbed from sony) and 5 different hard drives. Stutter I have is between the start of the wind up and when the catcher throws the ball back. Some games its every 3 pitches, some I can go several innings without seeing it.



Really not a problem unless it happens with the ball already in the air. Sometimes its actually given me an advantage of having a second to rethink the swing, others it's right when I would swing and screws the timing completely

All fat launch model PS3's as well though, never tried it on another model.

It happens when I've played online too, I always wondered if it happened for them or whatever happened when that occurs as it's usually just a half a second when it happens during the pitch. (rarely get a stutter during a player intro/dugout animation, but when that happens it holds for a good 2 seconds or more)

I just changed my hard drive and everything is back to normal... no more stutter pitches. The stutter/lag was getting pretty bad; my fielders would literally look like the guy from the movie Jumper... they would like do short one step warps instead of walking.

Every time i get the stutter i have noticed i have had pitchers in the bullpen warming up now i dont know if its a connection or not but the same thing happened with MLB 2k11 where you get the stutter when warming up pitchers.
