Re: help with diving/jumpin catches
I wish I could, but I'm n same boat. Maybe you should ask the computer, because they always rob me of hits with diving catches!
I could do it on the older games, but haven't had many opportunities this game. Just keep trying, and you'll get it some time!

Re: help with diving/jumpin catches
^That's what I hate about some stuff in video games, when there are things that the AI can do perfectly, but it's nearly impossible for the user to do. Unless you get lucky or practice this ALOT, I doubt users will be able to make diving catches in the outfield.Comment

Re: help with diving/jumpin catches
I think I've tried 3 diving catches in the outfield over the course of all my games on The Show. I caught one, and on the other two I had the ball go underneath my glove and then roll all the way to the wall. I've since come to the realization that the reward is not worth the risk in this case.
And, for what it's worth, I've noticed that players in this game make a habit of grabbing balls off their shoestrings at a rate that just seems unbelievable. But, I say that to say this, with the rate at which they make these catches just before the ball hits the turf, I feel like I have as much of a chance to catch the ball if I just continue running toward the spot as I would have if I tried to dive. I'm probably wrong there, but for me it works out on most occasions.Comment

Re: help with diving/jumpin catches
In the 120 games I've played in my franchise, I've only made one diving catch in the outfield. It was a forward dive (running toward the infield) with Beltran. And while it was a good feeling, it hardly made up for all the missed dives and home runs I haven't robbed.Comment

I'd love it if we were given the ability to practise these kinds of plays in next year's edition.Comment

Re: help with diving/jumpin catches
I've done it twice, one this year and one last year. The key for me is diving late so if you miss, the player will at least knock the ball down with his body. Really wish their was an option to slide a la MVP, its much more common than a full extension dive IMO.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

Re: help with diving/jumpin catches
I've robbed a player of a home-run twice at the wall but have never tried to slide to make the catch as i wouldn't want to risk giving up a triple or inside the park home-run.NFL: Oakland Raiders
MLB: Oakland A's
NHL: San Jose Sharks
NBA: Sacramento Kings
NCAA: Miami Hurricanes

Re: help with diving/jumpin catches
My RTTS player is a right fielder, and I've made a total of three diving/jumping catches in just under four seasons of play.
Two of the three catches I have made were by sliding. I really can't say how I did it, I just hit the dive button and got lucky, so it must depend on your speed and how close you are to the ball.
I've had multiple dive attempts, where the ball hits off my hand instead of my glove, or off my back, my head, just in front of me, or to the side of me, etc. You'd think since the game takes over when you're catching a fly-ball, it would help you out when you press the dive button.
My other catch was a jump in foul territory just before the big wall in PNC Park. The worst part about jumps is that, especially on RTTS, the camera angle is always really awkward, so if you're standing even 2 inches away from the circle you miss.
I turned off the one button dive/jump because it always seems to do the exact opposite of what I want. Trying to rob a home run? Dives into a wall. Trying to dive sideways near the warning track? Jumps in the air.
My biggest gripe of all though is the CPU's ability to catch ridiculous amounts of line drives and fly-balls. In one game I was robbed of a Grand Slam and a two run home run. I've had seven double plays turned in one game because of their abnormal ability to dive for the ground-balls through the hole.
Sorry for the rant, honestly I try to not even bother with diving and jumping anymore. You have to be so spot on, or you'll end up giving up a triple instead of a single, if you don't just let it drop.Comment

In 08 and 09 I've made my fair share of successful dives in the outfield but since 10 I haven't made ONE!"When it's all set and done, reality is the best innovation."Comment

Re: help with diving/jumpin catches
Why does the user dives seem so slow? Like when the cpu dives he's diving correctly. When I dive he does this ridiculously slow flop. It doesn't even look like he's trying to catch it. He jumps higher than he does in terms of length to get to the ball.5Comment
