Need a Utility Man for my Franchise...
Was looking for a good utility man to pick up for my franchise but not sure who to look into. Looking for a spot starter but would primarily come in as defensive relief in the later innings.
Any suggestions?Tags: None -
Re: Need a Utility Man for my Franchise...
You may want to post in the trade discussion thread as people in there are usually pretty helpful.. A little hard without knowing what team you are, what you have to give up, and if you want a fair trade.
I know that I picked up Ramiro Pena in the rule 5 draft of my chise and he is useful off the bench as he can play 3 infield position.. However he is a pretty low level guy. Not sure exactly what you are looking for. -
Re: Need a Utility Man for my Franchise...
The ratings are not that high, but in many different franchises I have found Maicer Izturis to be very effective; some contact, some speed, some glove, and I've found him to be very clutch.
Also, if you hadn't mentioned defense specifically, I'd point you to Martin Prado. I know he's a starter now, and may make the all-star team and probably take over for Chipper, but I've always thought his best use might be a super utility role, but he'd be most useful as a guy you rotate through 4 or 5 positions a week, rather than as a defensive replacement.
You could also look at older guys who you could plausibly put in that role, depending on your budget; I'd go for a guy with speed who can play a few positions, like Chone Figgins.Comment

Re: Need a Utility Man for my Franchise...
I don't know what roster you are using but if you're using the OSFM'S or v.4 at least Mark DeRosa is the bomb as he literally plays every position except C or pitching. I don't know what he looks like in any other roster though so YMMV.Originally posted by theenginePlus, there are lots of illiterate Pro Bowlers. Just ask Chad Johnson....Comment

Michael Young of the Rangers. He can play all 4 infield positions. Also Chone Figgins of the Mariners. He can play everything but catcher.PSN Name - xboxxerx
You can call it being a "Homer". But as Tupac said, its California Love.

Re: Need a Utility Man for my Franchise...
Sorry, first post on the boards so I wasn't aware of what info to give.
I'm not sure which rosters I'm using. I do know it was one of the more popular available for download that included some of the more accurate minor league rosters.
I'm playing as the Cardinals. However, I have made pretty big changes in my team. I have managed to wheel and deal to get the strongest starting rotation possible and add some youth to the team.
C: Y. Molina
1B: L. Berkman
2B: A. Craig
SS: S. Castro
3B: D. Freese
LF: M. Holliday
CF: A. McCutcheon
RF: C. Beltran
I also have good OF backups in Jon Jay and Bryce Harper. But I'm lacking a good defensive utility person. Hitting/Speed would be nice too but my priorities are: 1) Defense, 2) Speed/Baserunning, 3) Hitting. I have a pretty stacked team but I my fielding is near the bottom and it is costing me some games.
*I just traded for Castro so I haven't had a chance to see how that upgrade treats me just yet. Furcal had a cannon for an arm but often threw it wide/short/long.Comment

Allen Craig plays the outfield and most of the infield (he plays 1B in real life, but not in the game). Not changing sig until Cards win next WS. Started 2012Comment

Re: Need a Utility Man for my Franchise...
You also should still have Tyler Greene and Daniel Descalso. Together, they can play all the positions. Greene can play outfield as well as infield. He is also right handed and is the fastest guy on the team in real life. He has a decent to above average glove. Descalso is your lefty contact hitter off the bench and can play all infield positions with a great glove.
Then there is LHB Matt Carpenter that can play corner infield and corner outfield with an average glove. Although he has a better bat than either Greene or Descalso.
Adron Chambers and Shane Robinson are great for being back up outfielders. Both are great fielders with lots of speed. Chambers bats from the left and Robinson from the right.
Unless you traded all these guys away, you already have your utility players in the system.Comment
