Yellow Light of Doom.
I was in the middle of a game in my RTTS when my fat PS3 flat lined and got the YLOD. Try as I might the behemoth would not be fixed by any of my methods (unplugging it, cursing at it and punching it). However not all hope was lost, armed with my screw driver I removed the Hard Drive and then got the disc out by using a trick I found on youtube. Now on to my question is their any way possible I could get my saved data from the show off my hard drive? I mean I could buy another fat ps3 and switch my hard drive with the other one but I only want to do that as a last resort. I noticed their is a small 4 pronged plug on the hard drive itself does anyone know of a cord that I could purchase so I could some how recover my saves? I don't want all the time and effort I put into my franchise's and RTTS on this years version and years prior to go to waste.

Re: Yellow Light of Doom.
oddly enough this happened to me while playing MLB 10 on my fat ps3 two years ago. I went and got a slim one. there is a way to copy all saves, protected and not, from one ps3 to another. you use an Ethernet cable. the info can be found here:
Sony Computer Entertainment PS3™ Official Online Instruction Manual. Explains how to use the PS3™ system software.
another way is to pay for the one month of that PS Plus, upload your saves and then download them to the new system. -

Re: Yellow Light of Doom.
be careful playing show on older models...they tend to run hot with show playing inside pushing the system to work g=harder...i was also a victim.Unofficial OS Ambassador of "CPU vs. CPU"
Now Playing:
XB1 (Forza Motorsport 6 and Horizon 2)
Switch (Mario Kart and Zelda)
PS3 (old 2k games and the Show)Comment

Whats nice about the show. Is the cloud save. I was just messin around on my old ps3 and used it on my old. Good thing I did cause I got the ylod. When I got my new ps3, I lost maybe a weeks of games and in game sounds compared to 2 months being lost.

Re: Yellow Light of Doom.
Been through 3 YLOD's, 2 were out of warranty so I forked over for a mail in refurb transfer, third one happened about two weeks after it went out of warranty and sweet talked them into doing it for free. All launch models and the third time they weren't even sure if they could get me another launch model. (At the time I think it was.. $150, mail in the old system they send me a refurb with a 90 day warranty, I know the price has gone down since the first time though don't remember if 150 was the start or what it was last time)
Luckily enough none of them happened to the show. I know 2 of the times I had rentals in them when it happened.. NCAA football and killzone 3. Can't remember the other one.
Lost all my data in all but one (last) because I decided to start backing up to external.. still lost quite a bit though, especially since a lot of stuff then was system locked. Cloud system nowadays should alleviate that.
Bit pissy about it because (yeah I'm going to say it) I take care of the system, even built a special stand. When not in use it sits under a cabinet, but I pull it out halfway into the room. Stand is built so its held up around the bottom edges and air can circulate all around it. (basis of the stand was a 4 legged footstool turned upside down but I give it some support as I didn't want all the pressure on just the corners).
Wasn't even running hot at the time, but all it takes from what I researched is just the old solder not being able to take the heat and eventually giving out, supposed to be fixed on newer models, but still hear about it happening but the YLOD can mean multiple issues.
After the last YLOD on my launch though I've acquired the tools to fix it myself should it happen again. But think about giving customer service a ring before you go out and buy a new one if the system fails again
sorry, bounced off the topic a lot on this long post. I have a deep personal hatred with the YLOD.Comment

Re: Yellow Light of Doom.
yeah that YLOD is a mutha#$##. I thought my system will go on forever. But after taking apart my 60GB org PS3. It was real dusty, stored dust like a box fan. Now I spend $180 on 160GB PS3 opened box @Microcenter about a month ago. So far so good. I noticed that there are lesser or smaller vents on this system...Comment
