Show '13 Freezing - I may have a fix

During the last few days, the Show froze while I was in an online game 5x in a row and probably 7 out of 10 times. I was definitely frustrated (got the loss each time), but realized not everyone has been experiencing this issue. So I figured it may have something to do with my PS3's hard drive.

Today, I checked the free space on my system and realized I didn't have as much room as I thought. I had a lot of old MLB the Show save files and and game data installed that take up lots of space. I deleted those old save files and all of the game data I no longer use. I also deleted all of the messages in my inbox and outbox. Lastly, I deleted the MLB '13 install and reinstalled it. Since doing that, I've played 2 online games without the game freezing. This is a small sample size, but what a relief so far.

I'm not sure. While it might help some people, and I'm sure having a full HDD would probably have a negative affect on performace, I had a clean 500 gig drive when I installed The Show and still had a ton of stuttering a freezing.

Not that I am sponsoring OP's suggestion, but it is important to realize that stuttering and freezing are two completely different things. I don't think he's talking about the animation stutter, but actual freezing, that is, the game hanging indefinitely and forcing a restart.

Keeping your hard drive as empty as possible is one way to keep optimal performance on your PS3. One thing a lot of people do is hook up an external HD to their PS3(has to be FAT32 formatted) and put files on there keeping their PS3 pretty much empty.

Update - played 4 online games in a row without the game freezing. It seems there is defintely a benefit to clearing the hard drive of old game saves and game data.

I don't think the OP is a universal fix... I have a relatively new PS3 with lots of free space, and the game has locked up a few times... all online games for me so far.

I've played CPU vs. CPU games by far more than me actually playing, and none of them has hanged. Not that it helps to solve the issue.

Early on I had the game freeze during spring training. I was pitching and couldn't pitch, so I tried what worked for me last year. I switched inputs to TV and waited around 40 seconds, then I switched back to the game and I could pitch. After the game, I did the rebuild data process figuring maybe that needed to be done.

I continued playing and didn't encounter another freeze for the rest of spring training.
