I just feel like I need a routine, since there is a good amount of stuff to do in this game. I would like to hear everyone else's routine, and hopefully I can piggyback off some of yours - and for god's sake don't be afraid to go in-depth.

"What-to-do" in Franchise
Im kind of lost/overwhelmed. For the guys who really manage their teams/farm systems on a day-by-day basis, what do you guys do in Franchise? Do you look over data for the upcoming series if you play the games (maybe like look at other players' cards or something...is there even scouting data in this game)?...Do you check your minor league players stats every week to see how they are doing?...do you look for trades all the time?...do you train players on a week by week basis?...do you look at your draft scout's data a lot?

I take a lot of time in my franchise mode.
This is one reason I really miss the newspaper.....thank God the 1000 guys who don't even play franchise or the game(I'm looking at you econoodle) screamed so loud at how the newspaper is so "outdated" it doesn't make sense to keep it in
But I digress....
THIS IS ON THE SHOW SCHEDULE
Monday of is AAA time. I flip to the triple A level and check the team stats and league leaders.
Wednesday is AA time....I do the same there....
Friday is my day to look at possible roster moves(other than injuries)...based on performance.
Saturday is my trade day. It is the sole day on the schedule that I try and make my trades(to keep from making too many)
Sunday is the day I flip through the entire league and just make sure that the CPU teams lineups/rotations look correct(in terms of the proper TYPE(not specific) players are playing in each position.(RP have a habit of showing up in the rotations when injuries occur)
I do check the TRANSACTIONS screen everyday for CPU-CPU trades.
I use 30 team control....but actually do nothing for the other teams.

Let it sink in. Spend about 5-10 minutes in between games tinkering and by the end of 3 or 4 games you'll have a working knowledge of it.Comment

Yeah I liked the newspaper. It really was not necessary to remove it. If print is "outdated" then could they have maybe made the paper like an interactive webpage similar to espn.com. That would have been cool. You could news specific to your team and also news around the league.Comment

Yes....I forgot to mention.
This is when I use the hot/cold portion from the front end.
Before each series I note who is hot and cold from my upcoming opponent.
I asked that this info be displayed as a pre-game presentation....but not yet.
Hopefully for the future.

Re: "What-to-do" in Franchise
Re: "What-to-do" in Franchise
Haven't started my franchise yet, but I've done some sims and this is what I'm thinking:
Training - Evaluate at end of month and make adjustments as needed. I plan on doing individual training for just about every player, so I'll see how they're progressing in the current categories and whether I should start focusing on a new area.
Scouting - I'll check this every day or every other day. I have specific positions I'll be looking at with each team, so I'll try to discover certain guys for a while before scouting. When scouting, I'll probably try to wait for each guy to be at least 80% scouted before moving onto the next guy.
Minor leagues - I actually fast forward though each minor league game instead of just simming them. This allows me to tweak lineups and I check the box score at the end of each game to keep informed as to how players are performing. I do keep an eye on who's hot and who's cold, because that might mean I'll be getting an e-mail telling me that Player X had their potential move up or down.
Trades - I generally don't start looking until June, although I will put guys on the trade block right away. I'll probably have a list of guys I'm interested in, so I'll check in on them periodically to see how they're doing. I'll be doing 30 team control, so I'll also check the pending transactions screen every day or two. I think on July 1st teams will update their strategies - Normal, Playoff Push, Rebuilding. Since I'm rebuilding with the Astros and Cubs, I'll look at the Playoff Push teams to see if I match up well with any of them.
Advance Scouting - I really don't do any, but that's an interesting idea. I've always hoped it would be added in the future as an actual thing. I only play one out of every five or so games, so for the most part I'm not that concerned with it.Comment

Still would like to see a MLB Today time mechanic in The Show....headlines from around the league regarding game outcomes, performances, injuries, trades, etc. That you can drill into for the underlying information - box scores, transaction log, etc.
The newspaper was cool, but would have been better if for the entire league and for more than just game specific outcomes......Comment

Re: "What-to-do" in Franchise
as somebody said earlier, i also fast foward though the AA and AAA games for my team as it allows me to adjust lineups based on performance and who i want to give days off too and what not...I also check all the boxscores of the simmed mlb games to see how people are doing..every 1st and 16th day of each month i adjust each major league teams lineups and rotations based on their performace..benching certain player, calling up players from the minors, sending others down. I also have this odd way of manually injuring mlb players where every Wednesday i randomly select 10 player (3 position players, 3 SP and 4 RP) to go on the DL (all these injuries last 2 weeks)..i also pick two position players daily that will be injured for just 2 days (representing minor day to day injuries)..i keep logs to keep track of all this **** by the way..works for meComment

This is what I thought and had hoped the twitter feature was going to be implemented as, a sort of replacement to the newspaper where you would receive tweets on injuries, player tweets, milestones and player movements. I was kind of disappointed when I saw what it really was but think it is still kind of cool.
I like how you use certain days to do tasks, I kind of like that idea. Usually I use the first day of each month to do promotions/demotions based on stats, and trades usually happen around the all star break and beyond unless there is a pressing need.Comment

I loved the newspaper also.
Mainly I'm posting so that I don't lose track of this thread, since this year I'm planning on running a second mode where I'm exclusively simming and concerning myself with the long-term aspect of franchise mode. It will be my first time ever doing something like this, in any baseball game ever.Comment
