In game chat without the use of the headset

Hated to start a thread on this but couldn't find an answer. So I don't have a headset and the other day i got messages on screen while in game, thought that was pretty cool hadn't seen that before. How do I go about messaging back while in game?

If you have a keyboard, just start typing.

ahh figured it was something that simple/ not worth getting a ps keyboard imo though

Actually as long as the keyboard connects via USB you can use any keyboard.

You can use any USB keyboard, so if that's what your PC uses you can just plug it into the ps3 when you wanna message someone.

Haha but really it's awesome, I just use my wireless keyboard and mouse that I use for my laptop on my TV!

What if you don't have a keyboard? You can't input messages using the PS3 controller, at any time?

I've always wondered about this also, since I don't have a headset or keyboard.
