The improved ball physics alone are reason enough to pick up the latest version of the game.

12 is great 13 is better. You might want to wait until the price drops if you are satisfied with 12. Rosters are updated for 12 so that won't be an issue.

The opening up of the timing window for hitting allows for more BBs and better at-bats on 2013.

Yeah, when I first turned on my ps3 it needed to update, but I think that was a ps3 update. I didn't get any "the show" updates
